ALESTA, LADY OF DARE, 10th Order: (03102--) (--)Barrow: Lady of Alesta was always such a thoughtful girl. Small, fair-skinned with a wonderful head of flowing black hair, Lady Alesta was slated by her House of Dare, 10th Order, to be wed to the House of Champion in Remnath. However, from a young age, Alesta could see a strange yellow star in the northwestern sky that nobody else could see. Seeing a group of the oft belittled Pilgrims of Merian being laughed at in the city square, she learned they too could see the star. She found her calling and joined them, wearing their homemade clothing and being denied most modern conveniences.

Alesta soon found the calling of the Pilgrims of Merian was extremely dangerous—they often being asked to put themselves into harm’s way to save all those who have fallen astray. Settling on an asteroid near the dreaded Cronyn World, she often participated in rescue missions, putting her life on the line time after time. After rescuing the crew of the fallen Constantinople, Alesta and her Pilgrims were unable to escape and were captured by the dreaded Drury brothers, and she was thrown into a Kestral tank to be turned into a Killanjo. Alesta was saved by Lord Stenstrom of Belmont and his companions, Taara de la Anderson of the Stellar Marines and Josephus, Lord of A-Ram. Seeing the brave, true man under the slope- shouldered, banana blonde skin of A-Ram, Alesta fell in love, eventually marrying him.

ANUIANS:  Greater Monamas or "Monama Nobles", the Anuians were an old strain considered the ruling class within their House.  Anuians were generally taller, stronger and faster than a standard Lesser, or Conox Monamas, making them incredibly strong and fast.  Anuians were also said to be resistant from becoming Berserkacides.  The Anuians followed the great Remnath hero, Atrajak of Want, and participated in the so-called "Hidden Wars" with him.  After Atrajak's death, the Anuians were hunted and driven into general extiction by the Kestral Oligarchy for daring to raise their hand in warfare. After their passing, their lands and holding were taken over by tribes  of Lesser Monamas, also adopting their language of Anuie.  Anuians, do pop up from time to time in modern Monama birthings, requiring six months to gestate instead of three months, as is standard for lesser Conox Monamas.  The partially-developed Anuian offspring are placed in a device called an Anuian Jar and sustained there until they fully develop. (See, Anuian Jar).

A-RAM, HOUSE OF: Calvert: House Minor and modest line of fishermen from St. Edmunds from the old House of Aramtwillinger. Known in the Calvert line has being openly mocked by the Sisterhood of Light for having poor blood and marked with their dread Venti Nomi designation.

AREANAS: Mysterious group of beings known as the "Gods in Jade and Sapphire" who were a precursor race on Kana hundreds of thousands of years before the arrival of the League when it was known was Tevlapradah.  Like the League, the Areanas appear to have settled on Kana from elsewhere in the Kanan north, for the south was overrun with a pale, four-armed race of beings who were savage in the extreme and worshipped a pagan Horned God.

According to lost writings and Monama lore, the Gods in Jade in Sapphire were beautiful, humanoid beings who were nearing the end of their evolutionary development and could no longer bear live offspring. Endowed of long life, they were slowly dying out, unable to reproduce themselves. They were seeking a surrogate race with whom they could mingle their genetic code and produce live off-spring; they called these elusive surrogates: Mo-Na-Mas, the "Bearers of Offspring". Travelling thr stars, they encountered a benevolent being to told them of creatures on the world of Tevlapradah who might be their Mo-Na-Mas at last, and they diverted there. After landing, they discovered the benevolent being who had guided them there was actually a blood-thirsty creature known as the Horned God who was planning on sacrificing the apparently weak Areanas to his dark angels, a pale, savage, four-armed people over-running the south.  Fleeing to the north where the Horned God's servants seemed unable to follow they soon discovered the berserkers were, in fact, very hearty genetically and might be the Mo-Na-Mas they were seeking after all.  Safe in their city of Ma-Gra-Vine, the Areanas began experimenting with the berserkers, hoping to mellow their relentessly evil nature.  They were eventually successful in their efforts and created the progenitors of the modern Monama peoples of Kana, though the techniques they used cost the Monamas a pair of arms. The Monamas were now peaceful and driven by sex and bore young by the score. Triumphant, the Areanas renamed the planet "Ka-Na".

Eventually, however, the Horned God returned with new golden formless servants. They attacked the Areanas with mercy, stole their forms and fed them to their children in a terrible City of Many Forms. Soon, all Areanas on Kana were driven to extinction, leaving the two-armed Monamas, their creations to their fate.

ATHA: (also known as Kreymns, Falsanna, Shadow tech Goddess) Atha is a mysterious being thought to be a goddess in some circles. She appears in a number mythological pantheons usually as a goddess of mischief, of luck (and, conversely unluck), of Questing, and of sexual delight. Unlike other god-like creatures who appear as ordinary animals, Atha generally appears as a tall, thin human female with short blonde hair and wearing a pair of geared goggles. Her goggles are a common feature regardless of the pantheon (to see her eyes behind the goggles is to drive one mad). She also has been known to appear as a cat, a shark and a debauched snake.

Atha is well-known for disguising herself as a being known as the Shadow tech Goddess. She is also known for her promiscuity. Many writings tell of her fondness for engaging in sexual intercourse with various heroes and members of the younger folk. She will often become fascinated with a particular hero and  put him (or her) through a vast labor or ordeal with the ultimate purpose of having sex with them. She is know for granting favors in exchange for sex.

Some scholars wise in Atha's lore, claim she is the youngest daughter of Carahil and Mabsornath, though that assertion has never been proved.

ATRAJAK, LORD OF WANT: (1100ex—0004ex): The fabled “Hammer of Remnath”, Atrajak was born under the Star that Does Not Fall. Demonstrating incredible power from an early age, Atrajak and his army of Anuian Monamas purged the Kestral Oligarchy from Remnath, after they tried to create a kingdom there. Suffering a debilitating madness, Atrajak turned his attention to the Sisterhood of Light, seeing them as spawn of the Kestrals. He battered Twilight 4 and Deep 7 to the ground and moved east to attack Sammarcand when he was met in battle by a force of Vith, Remnath and Zenon warriors lead by Seraphoss of Grenville. There, Atrajak was defeated, his body falling into the dark waters of Lake Monama.

BALOR, KING OF XANDARR (03085ax--) (STR, W, D, C) The third eldest of the current House of Xandarr, Balor was a capricious and irresponsible playboy for most of his early life. He fritted money away, and engaged in loose sexual intrigues which, even in Xaphan Society, was a scandal. He had an addiction to bedding down dirty courtesans, for which he spent much of his time. His mother, Queen Xanthippe, frowned on the practice and would go to the lengths of locking him in the dungeon when he felt the need to be with one. Balor, not to be denied, began using body doubles to fool his mother. Such a foray saved his life as his sister, Princess Vroc, under the influence of the Black Hats, fell upon and murdered his entire family. Vroc however soon realized that she had killed his body double, and relentlessly pursued him, determined to put his dead body at the table along with the rest. Saved by a lowly servant, Balor hid in the vast network of tunnels beneath Xandarr Keep, and there, he finally shed his boastful immaturity and became a good man. After the Cleansing of Xandarr, he rose with his people and took as a wife Zoladerra of Vain, a freed Black Hat. His reign, though full of hardship and toil, was the beginning of a Golden Age on Xandarr, and under his leadership, they joined the League in 3977ax. (LoE: HotOO, TotEP)

BELMONT-SOUTH TYROL, HOUSE OF: Tyrol: House of Zenon-Tyrol roots, notable for its strong matriarch: Lady Jubilee. The House has thirty children:

Beryla, Wisteria, Antonia, Celesta, Munni, Solona, Sabra, Andromeda, Phaedra, Ione, Io, Miranda, Calami, Persephone, Lenta, Deneba, Jonnia, Kormanda, Deserae, Elma, Nathalie, Constance, Willia, Nylar, Xantrope, Xaphra, Lucile, Virginia, Lyra, Stenstrom (M)

BETHRAEL, SAMARITAN (ne: OF MOANE) (03112ax--) (BH) Xaphan: A former Black Hat, Bethrael of Moane was a part-time Hospitaler Samaritan in the Knickerbaum Order, part-time star socialite. Small, as is the case with most Black Hats, fawn-haired, brown-eyed with a distinctive mole on her cheek, “Beth’s” inviting personality and approachability made her a much sought after name in League Society. Never marrying though she had literally thousands of offers, it was said she had, at any given time, over a hundred lovers. She was a brave Hospitaler and a loyal friend. She fell in love with Lord Kabyl of Blanchefort, but was never able to court him.

A Black Hat of the Hammer class, she was always considered a capable but fairly docile fighter, lacking in the dark ferociousness expected of Hammers. Unlike most Black Hats who live their lives in a dark nightmare, Beth’s soul sprouted on its own and, in the dark, she dreamed of finding a way out of the Black Abbess’ grasp. Sent to Metatron with a number of other “marginal” Black Hats to recover the wayward Sygillis, she saw a bright figure falling from the sky. The figure was Captain Davage, having been sucked out of the breached SEEKER. Beth engaged Davage in battle and was easily defeated by him. She was greatly surprised when Davage did not kill her. Badly wounded, Davage comforted, carried and defended her throughout her ordeal in Metatron.

Cherishing Davage as her savior, she would always call him “sir” out of respect and, as a Hospitaler, delivered all twenty of Sygillis’ children, her youngest they named Bethrael after her. (LoE: SM, TotEH)

BILLUS THE KNAVE: (21573ex—14333ex) The Lone Rider of Onaris, Billus demonstrated legendary power from an early age. Hailing from Innari, Billus helped tame the wild world of Onaris. Billus eventually left Onaris and made his way to the new and rather Blue world of Hoban, where he earned his nick0name, “The Knave” for his brutish manner of dressing and speaking. Insulted by the Hobans dismissal of him, Billus went on a crusade to kill every living thing on Hoban. I is said the Stellar Fleet was created in response to a call from Hoban for help in quelling Billus.

BLACK ABBESS: Immortal supreme head of the Black Hat Sisterhood, the Black Abbess has been an enemy of the Sisterhood of Light and the League for centuries. In the time of the Elders the Black Abbess was the Grand Abbess of Magravine, one of the most powerful of the twenty five. She is believed to be Magravine, the second daughter of Lord Homma of Telmus Falls. Jealous of her elder sister Subra of the Mark, she, alone amongst her peers was a proponent of the emplosser, the “Living Earth” and called for its continued research and development—as Subra could command emplosser. Her peers, though, felt the Living Earth Gift was too dangerous and caused too much suffering to be allowed to continue and they began programs to breed it out of existence. Magravine refused to allow it to die. Gathering her followers, they met in secret under the Tartan Mountains and began a series of unspeakable experiments, usually causing unendurable agony in their victims and culminating in their deaths. There the Black Abbess discovered the secrets behind Shadow tech. Coaxing some of the Old Vith Houses to defect to the Xaphans, Magravine took many of her followers and went to the Xaphans in the Great Schism in 0000ax.

Finding herself under near constant attack from the Sisterhood, Magravine retaliated by developing several illegal Gifts (the Point, Mass and Sten). The two sides then began killing each other relentlessly until they agreed upon a series of decorums that spelled out when and how they would fight each other.

The Black Abbess is the only member of the Black Hat Sisterhood who is not a Shadow tech female. Her knowledge of Shadow tech allows her to cultivate Shadow tech and control it with a dark skill unrivaled in the Sisterhood.

BLANCHEFORT, HOUSE OF: Vith: Old Vith house of the line of Emmira, located in the far north of Kana. Always highly placed and well thought of, it was the Blancheforts who started the trend of dressing in ancient clothing and speaking in English, with the rest of League society following. When Maserfeld, Lord of Blanchefort became a raider, many other Houses began raiding. When Davage, Lord of Blanchefort tamed a Black Hat and made her his countess, the fad of “Black Hat Fighting” became all the rage. The LosCapricos weapon of House Blanchefort is the CARG, a powerful, sword-like weapon.

BLOODSTEIN, HOUSE OF: Vith: Vith Great House located near the ruins of Magravine said to be direct descendants of Holt of the Mountain and his Haitathe consort Rachina. Chrisania of Bloodstein was the great grandmother of Lord Davage of Blanchefort and a suspected witch.

BODICE, HOUSE OF: Xaphan (Hala): Extinct Great House of Hala with their home located near the mouth of the River Seven. In the years prior to the Great Betrayal, the House began complaining to the Sisterhood of Light that their lands were tainted: poisoned. Suffering from a fairly high percentage of birth defects (a rarity in the League) and seeing “demons” in the moonlight, they begged the Sisterhood to help them. The Sisterhood looked at the problem and did nothing. Taking council from a creature in the form of a large elephant, they eventually left with the Vith Houses during the Great Betrayal, becoming Xaphans. As they migrated to the stars, they were best upon by the House of Charn, who was envious of their supplies. Desperate to be left alone, they gave the Charns all of their supplies and began starving in space as they looked for a new home. After settling on Midas, they were again beset upon by demons, who killed them to the last man in a pagan temple deep beneath the ground.

In a rare display of public grief, the Sisterhood of Light in 0022ax admitted to the League that they had failed the Bodice and repented their inaction. It would eventually be discovered that their ancestral lands rested over the Temple of the Exploding Head, a terrible place controlled by the Kestral Oligarchy. The holiday St. Porter’s Day was created in honor of the slain patriarch of the House of Bodice, Lord Porter. A concerted effort was made in 0127ax by the Sisterhood of Light to reconstitute the House of Bodice, however, nobody of old Bodice blood could be located in the League and the effort was dropped. The Bodice remain a House of beloved regard to this day.

BRANNA, IMPERITOR, LADY OF PROBERT (ne: LADY OF PITCOCK/FALLZ) (02887ax--) (W, C, D) Remnath: Lead Imperator of the League Science Ministry, Lady Branna’s innovations and discoveries have been a leading force in Science circles for decades. Smallish, blue-haired and doe-featured, it was Lady Branna’s simple courage before the Second Battle of Mirendra that inspired the Fleet to take heart and try again. It was also Lady Branna’s Energy- Matter transporter prototype, mounted on the Seeker, which neutralized the Xaphan Zero Weapon and won the battle. Her work in assimilating new technologies led to the Triumph-class of Main Star vessel which included shields, SAR-Beams and energy-matter transportation devices. Her contentious and often comical work relationship with Milos, Lord of Probert, the Fleet’s chief engineer, is legendary. Lady Branna once threatened to have Probert, shot, hung, stabbed, beheaded, executed and then thrown in her dungeon. Such a display proved to be merely a front, hiding a much deeper respect and love. When her Lord Timon of Fallz passed away, Branna married Milos in a celebrated wedding.

When the Triumph was infiltrated by Princess Marilith of Xandarr and the Fanatics of Nalls, Lady Branna, with Lord Probert in defense, disabled the Sar-Beam banks. (LoE: SM, HotOO, TotEP)

BURGOS, HOUSE OF: (Xaphan: BURGON) Vith: Xaphan House of Vith ancestry who settled on the World of Burgon in 00002ax.  The House of Burgos was said to be in league with the attacking Haitathe hoards, and were often paid tribute by the other Vith Houses to receive relief from their attacks.  During their association with the haitathe, the Burgos were said to have developed a taste for Vith flesh, and they have had the reputation for being cannibals ever since.  They are said to have developed a genetic flaw in their tissues due to their cannibalistic tendencies and many modern Burgon births are thought to be tainted with deformity and sickness. The House of Burgos is separated into three distrinct branches: The Court of Burgon, the Court of George and the Court of Twill.

c

CAMILLA, BARONESS OF SORRANDER (ne: of CAROLINE) (002894ax--)(X)--Baroness Camilla of Sorrander is a Xaphan warlord, criminal, painter, socialite and would-be queen of Xandarr.  She was born 52nd daughter of the House of Caroline.

Craving power and notoriety, she married into the House of Sorrander, and quickly murdered her way to the top, becoming a baroness in 003002ax. Quickly going through the Sorrander’s coffers, she embarked on a long career of theft, stealing great masses of treasure from other Xaphan Houses. She is an accomplice of the House of Charn and commands a fleet of Ghome 52 battleships, making her a force to be reckoned with.

Camilla has had a long obsession with the planet Xandarr and has frequently tried to install herself as its queen. She has declared King Balor I and his queen Zoladerra squatters on her fiefdom and demanded they be taken into custody and executed many times. She created a stir when she presented herself to the League Ex-Commons and made a formal demand for war against Xandarr and that she be recognized as its queen.

Camilla has often attempted to foster the rumor that she is, in fact, Princess Marilith of Xandarr in hiding. Her claim has never been proved or dismissed.

CAREW, HOUSE OF: Planet Fall: House from the Z-Encarr continent on Planet Fall, the Carews grew to fame mining Boron, Argon and Bromine gasses from the atmosphere.

CAROLINE, HOUSE OF: Xaphan (Hala): Xaphan house formerly of Hala ancestry who settled on a small world named after them in the Tu Mervolin system in 0001ax. Always a friendly House, the Carolines were favorable to the League and greatly assisted the Fleet after the First Battle of Mirendra 3, providing them safe harbor, an act that helped save many Fleet ships. For their help, the League Ex-Commons reinstated the House of Caroline's patent in 03194ax.

The Carolines often powder themselves and wear lacy black or dark blue gowns. In an odd twist, the LosCapricos weapon of House Caroline is the VERY MARY, a garter with odd mystical properties. Worn by the ladies of House Caroline, the VERY MARY spirits away a Caroline damsel whenever she might find herself in mortal distress. The VERY MARY deposits the Caroline damsel amid the ruins of their ancient castle in the Halalands of Kana. An old fad in Hala goes as thus: single gentlemen, seeking a bride, venture out to the ruins of Caroline on a moonlit night, bearing gifts. If fate smiles, it is said a Caroline maiden might pop out of nowhere.

CHARN, HOUSE OF: Xaphan (Vith): Xaphan House settled on the distant world of Charn. The Charns were reviled for being directly responsible for the extinction of the House of Bodice, as they stole the Bodice’s food, propulsion and navigation. Xaphan commanders of Charn ancestry are generally given no quarter by captains of the Stellar Fleet.

The Charns are also well-known for their tyrannical Queen Ghome, a crazed ruler who who demanded the world of Hoban be given to her as a wedding gift, helped start a massive war with the League that the Xaphans lost. (The First Golden Age of the League/Xaphan Conflict).

CONE, HOUSE OF: Remnath: Prominent House from the Remnath city of Jacarta, the Cones are notable for their feud with the House of Tyrol. Lady Sephla of Cone was a bitter rival of Lady Jubilee of Tyrol and was always looking to humiliate her in public. When Sephla’s younger Sister, Vendra, announced at a Nether Day ball that she’d fallen in love with Lord Stenstrom of Belmont, Lady Jubilee, seeking to humiliate her, decided to steal him away. Jubilee also fell in love with Lord Belmont, was successful in stealing him that night and was soon married him. Vendra was so hurt, she went to the Sisterhood of Light and obtained Wirguild--a public permit to seek mortal vengeance against Lady Jubilee. Vendra sought to have her revenge by attacking Jubilee’s children, most commonly against her son, Stenstrom the Younger. The Sisters eventually revoked the permit, as they wished Lord Stenstrom to live, though Lady Vendra never stopped trying to attack him through indirect means. The Sisters eventually incarcerated Lady Vendra in Twilight 4 and held her for several years until they were forced to replace he by the League Ex-Commons. She was enraged when the daughter of Vendra’s younger sister, Merci, fell in love with Lord Stenstrom.

The current Cone children: Sephla, Soran (M), Tenada, Vendra, Terru, Derlith (M), Dann (M), Merci.

CONWELL, HOUSE OF (Esther/Xaphan): An old House of Esther blood, the House of Conwell is currently a Split House—some fleeing to the Xaphans in 0000ax. The Xaphan contingent settled on a Planar world they called Wunderland in 0002ax.

CORMAND-GRANDE, WILHELLA (OF WAAM) (BH):  The "Mad Black Hat of Waam" Wilhella Cormand-Grande is unique amongst the Black Hat ranks.  A "celebrity" in Waam, Black Hats are generally sullen and wicked, Willhella, however, is known to walk the streets of Waam, shopping and lunching.  She has been married several times to several Clovis Lords, has a publicist, and often makes the Xaphan newspapers.  She is also one of the few Black Hats known to talk her way out of a battle.  She is most famous for throwing parties at her skyscraper-like temple in Waam where thousands of people are invited.  It is not wise to refuse her invitation, so it is said.

CROWE, FIDDLER (???) : Hero supposedly from Cammara, the long lost home world of the Elderkind during the CX time epoch.  Crowe is supposedly immortal, as is his wife, Queen Wendilnight.

d

DARE, HOUSE OF: Barrow: Fashionable House from the city that bears their name, the Dares were usually trend setters in the League, other vying with Vith Great Houses for the privilege of kicking off new fads, or improving upon old ones. Their family fortune is based on fire-arm production, specifically, the prolific SK pistol used by the Stellar Marines.

There are many Houses of Dare in and around the Dare region of Barrow. The Houses are designated by Order, the lower the Order number, the might highly ranks the House is.

DAVAGE, LORD OF BLANCHEFORT (03005ax--) (STR, SI, W) Vith: The son of Sadric, Lord of Blanchefort, Davage was a famous Vith lord who became a captain of the Fleet, a man of great reputation. Davage was the first to successfully tame a Xaphan Black Hat, whom he later married (Sygillis of Metatron). His ability to helm a starship is legendary. (LoE: SM, HotOO, TotEH, SotSE)

DE LA ANDERSON, TAARA, LT (3160ax--) (--) Bazz: A troublemaking sprite from the Dyson Clampton region of Bazz, Taara de la Anderson was thrown out of home as a child by her parents who could no longer control or bear her. Constantly in trouble for stealing and other petty crimes, she was finally incarcerated and shipped off to the 110th Stellar Marines by the local Magistrate in the hopes of instilling some discipline in her. She was not well-liked by her fellow Marines and was relegated to pointless guard duty at Fleet Headquarters, where she could be hidden and do no damage. A chance encounter with a strange man wearing a mask and a Hoban Royal Navy coat changed her life for the better. As a private, she eventually became the first officer of the Seeker, the third Marine to do so. With Lord Stenstrom of Belmont and Josephus, Lord of A-Ram at her side, Taara found herself at last and became a loyal and valued friend.

DRURIES, THE: An ancient band of wretched pirates from Inaari on Onaris. The Druries were comprised of four brothers: Chance, Clem, Innocent and Lemmuel. They operated in and around Onaris, flying a beaten up ship called the Heade-on-the-Hearth. They were especially notorious for their ruthless nature and cruel reputation, made all the more frustrating as they were adept at falling on the weak and helpless, creating situations that favored them, and always magaing to elude those sent to stop them. They were said to have been sunk in space in 002157ax after a convoy was sent to lure them into a trap, however, the Druries returned in earnest shortly thereafter. They soon developed a ghostly reputation. Hell would not have the Druries, some said.

DRUSILLA, MAIDEN OF THE SILVER POOL (03188ax--): Hulgismen female and clone of Sygillis of Metatron, Drusilla lived in the pitch darkness of Sygillis’ temple for years, scrabbling about mindlessly, knowing only fear of the terrible figure sitting high above on her dark throne. Serving as Sygillis handmaiden, Drusilla tended to her personally, vaguely knowing that any wrong move could lead to her death. It was Drusilla who put the black bow in Sygillis’ hair—the bow that would help lead to her salvation.

When Sygillis vanished and the temple turned to silver, Drusilla’s eyes opened. Having an usually strong psychic connection to Sygillis, she could see and feel, in some small way, what was happening to her aboard the SEEKER, and she wrote out their mythology and saw Captain Davage as a “god with a golden sword.” Tough-minded and strong Drusilla became the leader of the Maidens of the Silver pool, able to control and shape the Silver tech flowing down from Sygillis’ old throne. Under near constant attack from beyond the temple walls, she and her order, using Silver tech, would repair the breaches in the walls.

When Captain Davage entered the Silver Temple, Drusilla, knowing him from her connection to Sygillis, instantly fell in love and tried to seduce him. Davage, entreating them to flee Metatron, it was Drusilla who piloted the temple away into the stars. Lacking in navigation, they drifted about for a time before finding a suitable, populated world. There, they settled and took husbands and wives from the locals and prospered.

All except for Drusilla. Every night, she would walk to the top of a nearby hill and stare forlornly at the night sky, at the stars, praying for one to fall, as Davage had fallen into the Silver temple. She was never able to forget him. (LoE: SM)

DURMAN, WARRIOR OF THE SILVER REALM (03188ax): Hulgismen male, Durman was the cloned son of Sygillis of Metatron. Mindless and brutal, Durman had been used by Sygillis in many of her battles and he had killed a number of League marines and Sisters. When the darkness of the temple cleared, Durman’s eyes opened and he became of the Leader of the Silver Warriors, riding the silver Eeorts into the heights. Courageous and strong, Durman would lead the charge in defending the various breaches blasted into the temple walls by the army of Shadow tech beasts trying to get in. Durman also converted the Silver Temple into a starship, ready to leave Metatron and find a quiet peaceful life elsewhere. He fought alongside Captain Davage and even killed a Black Hat. When they finally escaped and found a home in the stars, he took several wives and fathered over a hundred children, naming many of them Davage, after the man who had fallen from the sky and helped save them. (LoE: SM)

DURST, HOUSE OF: Vith: An Old Vith Great House located in mountains to the far north, House Durst was an old family inhabiting an ancient Vith chapel. Their holdings being fairly close to those of House Blanchefort, the two Houses were continuously allied with each other through the ages. House Durst clung to the old ways a bit more than their progressive Blanchefort friends and they never renamed themselves after the coming of Teacher-Lore spread through the Great Houses, each renaming themselves in Old Earth stylings. Additionally, they clung to the Vith tradition of name tags: the males in the line being named “tha”—as in Lord Dortha, and the ladies being named “line”—as in Lady Hathaline.

The Last seven daughters of Durst were: Medaline, Analine, Bellaline, Syndaline, Garaline, Jonahline, Hathaline.

The LosCapricos weapon of House Durst was the CRANIMER, an odd weapon whose lore was lost to the ages.

In 00197ax, Lord Hruntha of Durst married Lady Eva of House Tilbert (she then being renamed Evaline in the Durst tradition). They had six daughters and it appeared that the long standing name of Durst was heading for extinction with no male heirs. They tried again, and finally had a son who was born dead. In pain over their loss, their friend Sadric, Lord of Blanchefort, presented them with a beautiful baby girl with green eyes and bade them raise her as their own. Hesitant at first, they soon grew to love the beautiful girl and named her Hathaline.

Failing into ruin, House Durst expired, though Davage, Lord of Blanchefort, kept their ancestral castle in good repair and tended the grounds hoping that, on day, a New Durst would rise and return home. Three hundred years later, Therin of Colt, a descendant of Durst, broke from his House and declared himself and his wife Dursts. Returning to their ancestral castle they found Davage of Blanchefort and his Countess Sygillis waiting there to welcome them—a promise made years ago finally fulfilled.

EMMIRA, THE VITH MAIDEN/THE SWORDLESS (??—002010ex): The ancient history of Emmira, the mighty matriarch of the Vith tribe is lost to the ages. It is not known where she was born or in what year. Only her life as wife and queen to Homma, Lord of Telmus Falls and her death is clearly chronicled. Emmira is first mentioned in 000401ex. The northern reaches of Vithland were ravaged by a terrible war waged between the Vith, lead by Lord Homma of Telmus Falls, and the tribes of Haitathe who were terrorizing the region under several flags. Under the might and leadership of Homma, the Haitathe were steadily being pushed back out of the north. One particularly large and brutal Haitathe, Horta, stood on the plains of Magravine and called Homma out, to face her in a single contest. Homma obliged, and after a ferocious battle, emerged victorious. As Homma returned to his camps, at his side strode Emmira, the Vith Maiden. The Vith asked where this woman had come from, and Homma said she was a gift from the Elders for his bravery in slaying Horta (it is conjectured that Emmira was simply the Haitathe Horta in disguise—that, impressed by Homma’s strength, Horta fell in love with him and disguised herself. If that is the case, then many of the modern Vith Great Houses have Haitathe blood in their roots.)

Emmira is always described as a fair, incredibly beautiful woman. She is described variously as being between ten and thirty feel tall—the most usual number being about sixteen feet. She was said to speak in an odd accent and had a vicious temper, that only Homma could control her to any extent. Earlier texts describe her as carrying a huge sword named “Battleborne,” however she gave her sword to her eldest daughter, Subra, and, afterwards, is sometimes known as Emmira the Swordless.

As Homma pushed the Haitathe ever southward, Emmira stood at his side and, after every great battle was won, she would bare him a new child: Lennibus (M), Subra, Magravine, Terfal (M), Xenon (M), Tartan (M), Lacerta.

As the years wore on, Homma began to fall victim to his own success and power and went  mad. Whether cursed or otherwise influenced it is not known for in 2015ex he developed a Haitathe-like taste for Vith flesh and began devouring his own armies. As he turned to devour his children, Emmira stood before them, and was herself devoured by Homma. It was said that she protected all those afterward who were devoured by Homma, for, after his death, her children and legions of Vith emerged from his belly unharmed.

On a happy note, stories tell of a forgiving Emmira picking up the lost soul of her husband, taking him by the hand and leading him away from the battlefield to the stars where they could rule as king and queen forever.

In modern Vith lore, Emmira is seen as a guardian and protector, watching over those who need help most. Many Vith castles have cathedrals or chapels dedicated in her honor.

ENNEZ, SAMARITAN (03125ax--) (--) Onaris: A Brown from the city of Innari on Onaris, Ennez joined the Hospitalers and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a Samaritan in the pervasive "Knickerbaum Order". Strong and powerful with odd, popcorn hair, he was best known for his long stint aboard the Seeker and his running friendship with Captain Davage. Known as a wild spirit, he eventually settled with an equally wild Monama woman, Lady Tellerran of the Fphenook tribe. (LoE: SM, HotOO, TotEH)

ETHYLRELDA OF WAAM (02761ax--) (BH): A Black Hat of fierce power, Ethylrelda was clearly one of the most powerful Black Hats of all time. She was notable for having survived the most engagements with the Sisterhood of Light, and for killing, in a stand-up fight, the Grand Abbess of Kentaro. Her huge spherical temple in Waam moved, rolling slowly in a southward path, the city having to adjust itself and flee from its slow roll. After 400 years of service, Ethylrelda, despite the Black Abbess’s Clutch, developed a rudimentary consciousness of her own, and she began to long for something more than just being an evil Black Hat. She became obsessed with becoming a wandwilla, a legendary creature that is a mixture of Shadow tech male and female. When Lord Kabyl of Blanchefort arrived in the city looking for the third piece of the Oberphilliax, she detected his presence and immediately sought him out, using her Spectre henchmen: the Yard to welcome him into her presence. Krotan, the leader of the Yard, had fallen in love with Ethylrelda and wished to join with her himself. He took the piece and presented himself to Lord Blanchefort, where he was branded as a Shadow tech male. Ethylrelda then joined with Krotan and became a huge wandwilla in Waam. (LoE: TotEH)

FIEND OF CALVERTA crazed killer, the Fiend of Calvert stalked the streets and alleyways of the Calvert region of Kana, killing an untold number of people in a time period of roughly fifty years.  The Fiend's usual victims were sailors, merchantmen, drunkards and other such riff-raff, the method of killing: strangulation, sometimes bludgeoning.  The victims were also invariably men, no female killings in the area could be attributed to the Fiend.  For years there was a cloud of fear hanging over the docks and wharfs of Calvert—any man could be the next victim.

The Lords of Calvert had no luck in tracking down the Fiend, or in hindering his activities.  Hat in hand, they petitioned the Lords of Zenon and Esther for assistance, but got no real help.  A number of self-styled sleuths from various corners of the League went to Calvert in an effort to smoke the Fiend out and discover his identity, however, none had any success.  Lord Tully of Roop from Hala was killed by the Fiend, he being one of the few non-Calverts to fall vidtim to him.  Angry and frustrated, the people of Calvert gathered in Calvert Square in protest and to demand justice, their protest quickly turning into a riot.  The League Ex-Commons could ignore the situation any further and began a concerted effort to make safe the streets of Calvert and apprehend the Fiend.  Though they did not catch the murderer, their security measures were effective in steeming the flow of murders to a significant degree.  Finally, a celebrated vigilant from Esther, the Mad Lord of Walther, uncovered an underground vault near the ruins of Woodward in Remnath full of zombies that came to be known as the City of the Dead.  Investigating, the Mad Lord deduced that these zombies were all missing men from Calvert, thought to be murder victims of the Fiend.  His interest aroused, the Mad Lord came to Calvert determined to discover the perpetrator of these crimes and apply justice to him. Setting himself up as bait, the Mad Lord eventually encountered a shadowy person in gray who tried to strangle him.  Reveling himself, the Mad Lord took action and pursued the Fiend to his lair, where a host of henchmen awaited him.  Defeating them, he continued his pursuit across the rooftops of Calvert, the Fiend managing to escape.

That was the end of the Fiend of Calvert, for he was never heard from again, thus ending fifty years of murder and mayhem.  Years later, the Mad Lord would recall his battle with him on the rooftops in his memoirs, swearing that the Fiend of Calvert was a woman in gray.

GHOME, QUEEN OF CHARN (000701AX-001204AX)(Vith): Tyrannical ruler of Charn who helped touch-off the first great conflict with the League.  League history books state there were three rulers of Charn named Ghome who ruled back to back:

Ghome I:  Mysterious woman of great beauty and charm who married into the House of Charn and became ruler. A ruthless tyrant, even by Xaphan standards,  she was courted by Willard of Atha and demanded as her wedding dowery the planet of Hoban, thus beginning the First Great conflict with the League.

Ghome II: The second Queen Ghome was very placid and passive in comparison. Queen Ghome II attempted to undo much of the chaos and misery inflicted by Ghome I.

Ghome III:  A hedonist and tyrant much like Ghome I, Ghome III bankrupt the House of Charn and involved them in a feudal war with the House of Sorrander, which the Charns lost., resulting in Ghome III's death.

In some Xaphan circles, the claim has been made than all three Ghomes (I, II, and III) were the same person making her over six hundred years old at the time of her death.

GRANDMASTER: Mysterious entity supposedly charged with determining life and death at a universal level.

GRENVILLE, HOUSE OF: Remnath: Great House of Remnath stock located in the southwest of Kana in the city of Armenelos. Always an important House, the Grenvilles waged an everlasting “soft war” with House Blanchefort, each house trying to defame and humiliate the other. Sadric, Lord of Blanchefort and Marist, Lord of Grenville brought to rivalry to new heights, with both men endlessly slapping each other socially. Sadric was said to infiltrate posh Grenville parties dressed as a dark, mysterious woman—whom it was believed caught the eye of Herdie of Grenville.

HATHALINE, CAPTAIN, LADY OF DURST (03019ax-03179ax): (Sta, W, C) Seventh of seven Durst daughters, Hathaline (the “line” in her name characteristic of all Durst females) was born a Hulgismen clone of Sygillis of Metatron. Her pregnant mother was killed in a second attempt to abduct Lady Poe of Blanchefort—a Shadow tech female. Near to term, Lady Hermilane cut her free from her dead mother’s belly and cradled her—not quite certain what to do with the infant. When Sadric, who was away sabotaging a Grenville party, returned Hermilane confronted him with this tiny, green-eyed child. Knowing that their friends, the Dursts, had recently given birth to a still-born son, Sadric offered her to them, to help diminish their pain. Hesitant at first, they soon grew to love the beautiful baby girl, named her Hathaline, and raised her as their own, never telling her of her strange origins. She grew into a lovely child, powerful with the Gifts, fully able to perform three of them and particularly powerful with the Stare—she almost killed a servant in a fit of childish anger with it once.

Being close friends with the nearby House of Blanchefort, Hathaline befriended Davage, a boy similar to her in age. Becoming constant companions, Hathaline early on determined that she would marry Davage—that a Blanchefort-Durst pairing would be a very fashionable match, though Davage never showed her much romantic interest. Davage had the Sight, a Gift inherited from his father and Hathaline, wishing to please him, managed to create a sort of pseudo-Sight using her potent Stare as a substitute.

As young adults, “Hath” was thrilled that Davage finally seemed to be taking a liking to her as a romantic partner, but that’s when “The Wedding” took the League by storm. Davage’s father, Sadric, cooked up a crazy scheme to end the League-Xaphan conflict by uniting the two sides with a highly-placed wedding. Princess Marilith from the House of Xandarr, was selected from the Xaphan side and she toured the Great Houses of the League seeking a suitable match.

Hathaline was enraged when she learned that Marilith, of all the choices available to her, had selected Davage. Stewing, brooding, determined, Hathaline was not going to allow her childhood love to go off with another woman without a fierce struggle. Hathaline had discovered a rare and obscure form of the Stare called the Cloud by the Sisterhood. The Cloud had the effect of distorting a person’s psychic signature, allowing certain things to be amplified and other things diminished. Knowing that Davage’s protective older sister Pardock, a master Starer, was going to look Marilith over, she Clouded Marilith, making her appear to be a hideous psychotic psychopath who would lead Davage into darkness and murder half of the League. Horrified by what she had seen in Marilith, Pardock threw down the baton at their wedding, refusing for them to be wed and ending the dream of The Wedding forever.

Victorious, Hathaline waited for Davage, ever-consoling, loving and understanding to return and take her as his bride. Davage though had a hard time recovering, his wounded heart slow to heal and, wanting to put the memory of Marilith behind him, joined the Stellar Fleet and became a starship helmsman. Undeterred, Hathaline followed him, joining the Stellar Fleet herself and became a junior navigator. Eventually, as Davage became a Fleet Captain, he selected Hath to be his Master Navigator, and then his First Officer. Liking the acclaim and prestige associated with being in the Fleet, Hath was eventually appointed to the Captain’s chair of the DART, the SEEKER’s sister ship. Together, she and Davage soared the stars, fighting the Xaphans and sharing one adventure after another. Soon, soon, Davage would surely ask her hand in marriage.

Again, as before, another woman showed up to push Hathaline aside. This time it was a ship’s captain from far away named Demona of Ryel. Proud, aged in face and matronly, Davage found himself taken with her and offered his Zen-La . Spurned again, left out again, Hathaline became spiteful and she put Captain Kathryn, as Davage called her, to a vicious Stare, not caring whether she lived or died. When Davage discovered what Hath had done, he was enraged and he told the weeping Hathaline that would never forgive her. Heartbroken, Hathaline went away in her ship, determined to win his friendship back. There, in an obscure place called Mirendra, Hathaline discovered a Xaphan plot led by Princess Marilith of Xandarr to sneak attack the League using a strange device called the Zero Weapon that would cause their canister missiles to explode in their magazines. Desperately trying to get word of this insidious plot back to the League, her ship was ambushed, attacked on all sides and partially destroyed. Dying, her First Officer, Maiaxe, threw Hathaline into a life pod and sent it away as Marilith applied the final blow to the DART, killing all aboard. Floating in her life pod, her oxygen supply running out, she recorded a last message to Davage, begging his forgiveness and describing the plot against them. She then proclaimed her eternal love for him and died. Eventually her life pod was located by Davage, where he, mourning for his friend, led the charge in a second, decisive battle at Mirendra. Afterwards, he took Hathaline’s body back to Durst castle and buried her there as a hero. Although she died in 03179ax, her gravestone was inscribed 2962-3154 using the Vertus scale of time and date measurement, as was House Durst tradition. (LoE: SM)

HATHALINE, LADY OF BLANCHEFORT (03029ax--) (Str, Si) Vith: Second daughter of Lord Davage and Countess Sygillis of Blanchefort, Lady Hathaline was always her father’s favorite. Red-haired like her mother, Hathaline was a born pilot and was taught to fly by her father at an early age. It is conjectured that Lady Hathaline, when she was forty years old, was abducted by the Kestral Oligarchy and transformed into a Killanjo monster where she attacked and nearly killed Lord Kabyl of Blanchefort. The Temple of the Exploding head was destroyed and she was never abducted, instead, she joined the Fleet and soared the stars as her father’s helmsman. (LoE: TotEH)

HERMILANE, COUNTESS OF BLANCHEFORT (ne: LADY OF HANNOVER) (02799ax— 03009ax) (Str, W,) Vith: Second of twenty Hannover children, the blue-haired Hermilane was a long sought after Lady of Standing in League society. Known for her regal elegance, she was also known for her hot temper and willingness to draw swords on any man or woman daring to cross her, she was a master of the GEORGE WIND, the ancestral weapon of her family.

It was a long-standing mark of courage in League Society to attempt to court Hermilane, it being known that any wrong move or bad word could lead to a life or death duel with the lovely, blue- haired Lady of Hannover. Marist, Lord of Grenville appeared to be having moderate success as she smiled and danced with him at a grand ball celebrating the new year. She then saw a tall, somewhat frail gentleman carrying a lovely coppery weapon at the other end of the dance floor. Curious, she broke from Marist and went to the man and inquired about his strange, beautiful weapon. The man was Sadric, Lord of Blanchefort and the weapon was his CARG, the ancestral weapon of his line. Fascinated, he took her outside into the courtyard and showed it to her. She was amazed by its great weight, by its smooth surface. She laughed and clapped as Sadric, with one stroke, chopped down an ancient tree. Thus acquainted, she was taken with Sadric, and though she was much older than he was, she became his countess. Always a rowdy, it was Hermilane who taught her eldest daughter Pardock to fist fight and her son Davage how to sword fight, insisting that he become a master of the GEORGE WIND. When training him, she would press Davage to the end of his limits, impressing skills upon him that would serve him well later in life.

It was also Hermilane who saved her daughter Poe from a second attack by ten strange invisible people who attempted to abduct her. Hermilane, noticing the belly of one of her fallen opponents moving slightly, cut it open and pulled a beautiful green- eyed baby girl from her womb—the infant who would became Lady Hathaline of Durst. Hermilane would be “recreated” of a sort—her granddaughter, Sarah, was her spitting image, right down to the shade of her blue hair and rough demeanor.

HOLT OF THE MOUNTAIN: (03347ex-00134ex): Hero of Vith lore, Holt is notable for being one of the few Vith heroes who, apparently, had no Gifts—all of his deeds and exploits were accomplished using technology or simply his wits.

In the northern reaches, there was a Haitathe of fearsome reputation named Rachina, who lived atop towering Mt Vith. Occasionally, Rachina would come down from the mountain and raid Vith villages, stealing people and eating them. Every year Rachina took more and more people, loudly boasting that none could stop her. Many Gifted Vith heroes climbed to the top of Mt Vith, to face Rachina, never to be seen again. A carpenter’s boy from the village of Shirster Point, Holt, was visited in his sleep by an entity claiming to be the Elder Merian. Merian told Holt to look for her star and follow her road. She also told him that Rachina could be beaten, not by force of arms, but by great guile. The next day, Holt saw a strange star in the sky that nobody else could see. He followed it and found himself in the lair of Rachina. He freed the villagers whom Rachina was planning to devour and, in their place, put dolls crafted from the villager’s hair. Following Merian’s road, Holt led the villagers to freedom, while Rachina devoured the dolls left in the cages. The last doll had no hair and Rachina discovered she had been tricked. In a rage she descended the mountain and demanded the entire village as tribute for her inconvenience. Quaking in fear, no heroes in the village dared to face Rachina.

Again, Holt stood to face her and she laughed when she saw him. Holt, however, had rigged Rachina’s lair with explosives and, using a remote detonator, blew her lair sky high. Upon seeing her lair burning, Rachina returned to the mountain to slay whomever had destroyed her home. Using Merian’s road again, Holt beat her to the top and was standing there as Rachina returned. Baffled and saddened over the loss of her home, Rachina wept. Holt, however, offered to help her rebuild her home if she would promise not to assail the village again. Holt was true to his word, and together they built Rachina a far grander home. Rachina appeared to have repented her ways, for she became Holt’s companion and constant ally.

Holt is said to be the direct founding patriarch of the House of Bloodstein and the father of the Pilgrims of Merian who can see the same star he could and walk his road.  Holt of the Mountain also led the Vith and the 24 Grand Abbesses against the Temple of Magravine and put the evil Lake Tithmus to the torch.

HOLLY, HOUSE OF: Xaphan (Vith): Xaphan House of Vith ancestry, it is not generally known why they vacated the League and became Xaphans in 0000ax. Though Xaphans the Hollys, like the Carolines, remained fairly close to the Houses of the League through the years.

HOMMA, LORD OF TELMUS FALLS: (4722ex—2004ex) (W, Str, C) Vith: Ancient Vith lord of the Telmus falls region who waged a long and successful war against the tribes of Haitathe in the early days of the EX time epoch.  Eventually, Homma fell to madness.

Until the coming of Homma, the Northern reaches of Vithland were a killing field, the giant tribes of Haitathe holding sway and waging war ever southward, and the Vith near powerless to stop them. Under the light of the Star that Does Not Fall, Homma was born in the Telmus Falls region of Vithland. From an early age he showed great strength and endurance, supposedly able to kill Haitathe bare handed—an unthinkable feat. Assembling the ragged Vith into an army, he then cleared them from the northern reaches in one bloody battle after another. A mighty Haitathe warrior named Horta—said to have a hundred arms—called Homma out and challenged him to a single duel. Homma accepted and, in a raging confrontation, defeated Horta, creating the Magravine fissure in the process.

Shortly after that battle Homma began appearing with his newly won queen, Emmira the Vith Maiden—a woman of incredibly beauty and gigantic size (she was said to be sixteen feet tall)—she was thought to be, in fact, the Haitathe Horta in disguise and during their battle had lost her heart to him for the great strength he displayed. Homma and Emmira had seven great children who all became Vith heroes and founded several Great Houses:

Lennibus (M), Subra, Magravine, Terfal (M), Xenon (M), Tartan (M), Lacerta

Moving his army south, Homma pushed the Haitathe until they fled eastward into the Estherlands. Afterwards, Homma was said to have gone mad and became a cannibal in 1010ex, eating his queen Emmira, and their children Tartan, Xenon and Lacerta. In an odd collaboration, his sons Lennybus and Terfal joined forces with several bands of Vith and an army of Haitathe and engaged Homma and killed him, the only survivors of the battle being Lennybus and Terfal. Homma’s daughter, Magravine, is said to be the same Magravine who eventually became the Black Abbess.

JONES, DARIUS: (0194ex—0002ex): Bazz: Legendary hero from the Tennant-Parent area of Bazz. Jones is generally regarded as an “It” man, a Bazz term denoting a man of great strength and virtue. There are a score of fanciful and exotic tales of Darius Jones, some being more outlandish than others. Jones is credited with: digging out the channel of the Pernel-Lavy river, inventing the volcanically hot cuisine enjoyed on Bazz, and flattening the tall Holykrull-Goiman mountain range. One exploit that seems to have genuine credence is the tale of Jones undertaking a long journey to help protect his people from a strange and unidentified group of beings known as the Cronyns. Jones was successful in quelling the Cronyn influence in 0162ex. Toward the latter years of his life, Jones appears to have suffered from an alteration of the brain, for he stopped wearing clothing and generally put off any who came into contact with him. His final resting place is not known.

KABYL, LORD OF BLANCHEFORT (03211AX--) (DSi, C, W) Vith: Kabyl was the first son of Lord Davage and Sygillis of Blanchefort. Born with odd purple hair, “Kay” was always a very handsome young man, clearly Gifted, yet was unconcerned with developing his skills. From an early age, he was plagued by a “pale ghost” that dogged his heels, hiding and stealing his things, and generally tormented him in a mild way. His best friends while growing up were his cousins, Sarah and Phillip of Blanchefort—the three of them an inseparable trio. As Sarah and Phillip left with their parents to live south in Grand Effington Manor every winter, Kay found himself alone and lonely. He struck up an odd friendship with a “voice” that haunted a buried chapel somewhere in the castle. The voice called itself “Sam” and was eventually revealed to be Lady Sammidoran of Monama—she being the “pale ghost” who had been near him since his birth. Kay was eventually revealed to be an Invernan, a Shadow tech Male. He had the Sight, but his status as an Invernan changed his Sight into the Dark Sight—a powerful version of the Gift that allowed him to see and interact with objects very far into the past or the future. He also had the Waft Extreme, being able to “fly” with it. After a long series of events, he one day would marry Lady Sammidoran, being one of the first Elder lords to be wed to a Monama. (LoE: TotEH)

KILOS, LADY OF BLANCHEFORT (03207ax--) (St, W) Vith: The eldest daughter of Lord Davage and Sygillis of Blanchefort, Lady Kilos was a strong-willed girl often at odds with her mother. She had a whitish head of blue hair, and was addled with a pronounced bout of childhood “Puffies”, not fully shedding it until she reached the age of twenty-five. She was a known gossiper and, using her Gift of Stare, could find out secrets. She could, if motivated, keep secrets very tenaciously.

KILOS, LT, OF TUSCK: (03117ax) (--) Onaris: A Brown Marine from the outskirts of Tusck, Kilos was the 11th daughter of 23 in her family. A small child, she had a quick, ugly temper and a fast set of fists, often getting into fights. A young boy from down the lane would often help her in these fights and they became fast friends, eventually marrying. Kilos grew into a tall, strong girl with large brown eyes and thick brown hair that easily faded to a golden blonde in the sun. Penniless, she and her husband roamed the Onaris country-side performing odd jobs and picking coffee (a labor that would give her a powerful hatred of the fashionable drink). Her husband greatly wanted to attend the large university in Tusck, but they had no money. He appeared to be a talented, promising student, but as their local Blue Lord, Lord Hershey of Pittsfield, was never available, they could not secure a Letter of Honor—a note allowing a student to attend school on the credit of the Lord. Having little other choice, Kilos joined the Stellar Marines to pay for his schooling. Her temper and reluctance to follow orders soon became clear and she became a chronic disciplinary problem, finding herself in Hack, incarcerated, or under the lash frequently. Toiling in an unpaid work detail in Armenelos, Kilos was selected by Sixtus, Lord of Grenville to be sent to the Main Fleet Vessel Seeker as the new adjutant to the Fleet Captain. Lord Grenville had a long running hatred of the Seeker’s captain, Davage, Lord of Blanchefort and he planned to throw the most unruly and unqualified candidate possible at him, hoping to throw Davage’s command into turmoil and lose him his Re- appointment. Seeing that Kilos was a fit, attractive woman, Grenville also suggested that she spy on Davage, flirt with him and immediately report his actions back to him. He promised compensation and a Letter of Honor for her husband. Reluctantly, Kilos agreed. Upon meeting Captain Davage, Kilos found herself charmed by his friendly nature and easy manner, she was hopeful that they could become friends. Lord Grenville’s plan, however, was immediately discovered and Kilos, sitting in Davage’s office, was dressed down and humiliated by Lt Hathaline, Davage’s first officer. Davage though, true to form, saw untapped potential in this tall Marine and he decided to give her a chance—but first, determined to win her respect, he took her to the ship’s gym and ordered her to fight him. She did and he blackened her eye and knocked out a tooth—Kilos a skeptical, practical Brown, admired his martial skills, gave him her respect and joined his crew.

Under Davage’s positive influence, Kilos flourished and became Davage’s confidant and fast friend. Her relationship with Lt Hathaline never was good, and “Hath” often put her to the Stare, an act that she never shared with Davage—she kept her issues with Hath between the two of them. When Hathaline left to become captain of the DART, Davage offered the first officer’s position to her, promoting her to Lt in the process—an unusual move as Marines were seldom promoted to high Fleet rankings.

Shortly afterward, her husband, now a graduate emeritus from the university, begged “Ki” to leave the Marines and come home. Ki though, devoted to her Captain and finally enjoying her service, refused, stating that she had worked to put him through school and now she was working to make something of herself as well. Her husband, though saddened, understood and they continued their long-distance marriage.

Shortly before the Great Attack of Xandarr, Kilos quit the Marines and made to return to her husband in Tusck. She was diverted by Carahil the Seal and went with him to the Hazards of the Old Ones and did something there that she could never quite recall. Eventually, she would be admitted to the Stellar Fleet.

Lady Poe of Blanchefort made a Tweeter familiar for Kilos so that she would not get lost in the castle. Kilos became very close to “Tweets” as she called it and talked Lady Poe into hooking it into her life force so that it would live as long as she did—she eventually became known as “Kilos of the Silver Bird.”

Kilos, a stern Brown and seldom given to fits of “sap” was moved to tears when Davage and his countess Sygillis named their first female child in her honor. Eventually, Kilos would feel the call of motherhood and became pregnant. She retired from Fleet service and moved full time into Castle Blanchefort, Davage and Sygillis giving her Pendar Tower. Davage then appointed her the Magistrate of Blanchefort village. (LoE: SM, HotOO, TotEH)

KILOS’ HUSBAND (03119ax--) (--) Onaris: A Brown from Tusck, this unnamed man is a scholar emeritus from the University of Tusck and the husband of Lt Kilos. Marrying Kilos at a young age, together they roamed the Onaris country-side looking for work. He wanted to go to the big university in Tusck, but they had no money. Unable to secure a Letter of Honor from the Local Lord, Kilos was forced to join the Stellar Marines to pay for his schooling. Eventually receiving a Letter from Kilos’ new captain, Captain Davage, he continued to excel in his studies until he graduated at the top of his class—it is not known what course of study he pursued.

Upon his graduation, he begged Kilos to quit the Marines and come home, but Kilos was devoted to her captain and refused, stating that she was now working to make something of herself and they continued their long-distance marriage.

A brilliant and dogged researcher, Kilos’ husband is a valuable asset as he is often able to gather detailed information on virtually any subject, often well ahead of Fleet Intelligence.

LACERTA THE MIDNIGHT (02784ex, 01010ex): Youngest child of Lord Homma of Telmus Falls and his Queen Emmira, Lacerta was said to be rather tall like her mother and was strikingly beautiful with blue hair. Like her siblings, she was devoured by her father in 2010ex. Lacerta was known as “The Midnight”, though it is not clear what that name refers to. Lacerta is the direct matriarch of the House of Xandarr.

LENNIBUS (02262ex--??): The eldest son of the great Vith lord Homma of Telmus Falls and Queen Emmira, Lennibus participated in many battles alongside his father against the Haitathe. When his father went mad and began devouring all around him, Lennibus survived and rallied to defeat him along with his brother Terfal. Roaming the north, Lennibus was said to have taken a Haitathe warrior as a wife and founded several Vith Great Houses, including the House of Blanchefort. Lennibus is credited with inventing the CARG of House Blanchefort. His ultimate fate is unknown.

LON, LORD OF PROBERT (03216--) (--)Calvert/Remanath: Lord Lon of Probert was the youngest son of Lord Milos of Probert and Lady Branna of Fallz (in her second marriage). Typically “Probert” in appearance, Lon was a round, shy boy, however, he had fully inherited his acclaimed parents intelligence. He had his father’s engineering skills and his mother’s insatiable curiosity and was clearly her favorite son. A painfully shy boy, Lon, through his parents, became friends with Kabyl, Lord of Blanchefort and his cousin, Lord Phillip. Though outwardly round and uncoordinated, Lon was trained at an early age to be a master with the CEROS, the LosCapricos weapon of House Probert and the Pitcock Wonder Gun, or his mother’s House.

Accompanying Lord Kabyl on his quest two save Lady Sammidoran of Monama, Lon proved his worth, being an invaluable asset in both battle and in thought. Through his actions he won the respect of Thomasina the 19th of Waam and her Singing Ten. Visiting the ancestral home of Lt Kilos on Onaris, Lon quickly won the affections of Kilos’ sister, Maia of Tusck, though he was nearly six inches shorter than she was.

In the Temple of the Exploding Head, Lon again proved his skill as a warrior, but, through treachery, met his end. His funeral in the city of Arden was a sad and well attended event.

A year later, Lord Lon suddenly reappeared—he saying he’s been on sabbatical in the city of Tantan. Reuniting with Lt Kilos’ sister, Maia, Lon would soon make her his Lady.

Devoting his fertile mind to the Monama problem of Berserkacides, Lon soon discovered the secret of the Heart trigger buried deep within them, and, shortly thereafter, invented a cure, ridding the Monamas of the Berserkacide scourge forever.

Shooting up, Lon soon lost his Probert roundness and became a tall, stately Pitcock-looking gentleman, almost as tall as his wife, Maia. (LoE: TotEP)

MABSORNATH: Ancient name of a feline Elemental Spirit once worshipped by the inhabitants of Zall 88, a Xaphan space station.  Mabsornath granted the inhabitants of Zall 88  knowledge and wisdom.  After the destruction of Zall 88, Mabsornath was said to be have gone insane with grief and became a demon.  The House of Xandarr, enraged that they couldn't benefit from the spoils of their conquest, incorporated Mabsornath as the 11th goddess of their pantheon, making her the goddess of pestilence, infidelity, infertility and disease.

MAGRAVINE: See: Black Abbess.

MAPES, COMMANDER, LORD OF GRENVILLE (03067ax--) (Str, W,) Remnath: Youngest Lord of Grenville in the current strain, Mapes seldom entered the social arena like his many brothers, instead he educated himself and discovered he had a great aptitude for science and engineering. Like all Grenvilles, he found he had a weakness for women and often found himself dallying. Wishing to enter the Science Ministry, he was instead forced to join the Stellar Fleet at the insistence of his eldest brother, Sixtus. His skill and family connections allowed him quick advancement and, after several years, he was appointed, through complex political musings, to the position of Engineer aboard the Seeker, a vessel captained by Davage, Lord of Blanchefort—a man whom the Grenville’s hated. The Grenvilles hoped Mapes would be able to subvert Davage’s command and lose him his appointment.

Mapes however, found that he didn’t “dislike” the captain and found himself able to work with him surprisingly well. When the Seeker was badly damaged over Metatron, Mapes assumed the ship lost and decided to await rescue as the ship’s main spar was broken beyond repair. He was amused when Sygillis of Metatron approached him, beseeching him to repair the spar. Chidingly telling her that the spar could not be fixed, Sygillis put him to the Dirge and forced him to show her how to repair it. He was amazing when Sygillis, using her Silver tech, was able to fully repair the spar. Admiring her single-minded devotion to Captain Davage, Mapes greatly wanted something like that for himself, and, when he leaned that a Black Hat was in capture in the Brig, he wished to “turn” her, as Davage had done, hoping that she would respond to him as Sygillis had to Davage. After a brief argument with Davage in his office, Mapes convinced him of his sincerity and to two men became friends. Then Mapes, after a great deal of time, was able to resuscitate Suzaraine of Gulle, rehabilitate her and, eventually, make her his Lady.

When Sixtus of Grenville saw Davage’s name on their wedding list, he was jubilant, hoping to cross it off and thus “slap” Davage publically. Mapes though, refused and Davage and his Countess-to-be, Sygillis, were allowed a place of honor in the wedding line. (LoE: SM)

MARILITH, PRINCESS OF XANDARR (X) (02994ax-3189ax) (Str, Sta, W, C, D) Xaphan (Vith): Xaphan princess and arch-enemy of Captain Davage, Marilith and Davage engaged in an eighty year long duel: Marilith determined to kill him, and he determined to apprehend, sink or kill her in turn. Tall, fit, blue-haired, her face painted in bizarre, frightening makeup, mighty in five of six Gifts—no Sight—she was a continual thorn in Captain Davage’s side and a celebrated Xaphan hero.

It didn’t start out that way. Marilith was the third child of ten of the powerful Xaphan household of Xandarr. She had an older sister, Nalfeshnee, and an older brother, Glabrazu, who both disappeared without trace—it is said she murdered them so that she could be the eldest Xandarr daughter—her parents would eventually give those names to two younger children following Marilith. She was a typical Xaphan princess: spoiled, indulged, and lost in Xaphan mental obscenities. She was certainly an arrogant, condescending person, but nothing more. When it was decided that the Xaphans and the League should try to unite with a highly placed wedding, Marilith was excited, she was to be the toast of both Xaphan and League Society. She and her large contingent of followers toured the League, she being allowed to pick her mate. After a long period she narrowed her choices down to two: Davage, Lord of Blanchefort and Sixtus, Lord of Grenville. She secretly fancied Davage and when he prevailed in her tasks, she was ecstatic. Staying in the Blanchefort’s huge Vith castle, she and Davage Zen-La’ed— they fell in love. Against tradition, Sadric, Davage’s father, ordered her portrait painted though they had not yet married—Sadric was taken with Marilith. The parties, the social functions, she was enjoying every moment. Soon she would be married and she and her handsome new husband would take over, ruling both societies as King and Queen—a lofty ambition to be sure, but nothing out of the ordinary for a haughty Xaphan princess. She looked on with satisfied amusement as Hathaline, that little girl from House Durst shot her an exceedingly dirty look from across the room. She couldn’t understand why Davage’s sister, Pardock, dropped her drink to the floor, the color draining from her face and left the room.

She really couldn’t understand it when, the next day at their wedding , Pardock took the baton, and, instead of passing it forward, threw it to the ground and dragged Davage from the chapel.

That was it…the wedding was off. Marilith figured Davage would return to her side, wedding or not—he was her Zen-La after all. When he failed to return, Marilith sought him out, wondering what had happened—she couldn’t get anywhere near him and had to literally shoot her way out of a hostile League port. She would never see him in the flesh again.

And, it began, the years of dreaming—pleading, for Davage to return, her dreams full of him with his back turned. Eventually, in her sadness, she lost part of her mind, she became deranged, and she determined to get Davage’s full attention one way or another—and if she had to take his life in the process, then that was that. She started carrying a knife known as "Moonglow", with a blade long enough to pierce his heart and hers at the same time. She proved to be a capable ship’s captain and was always able to elude Davage, to stay just out of his reaching grasp—their frequent battles in and around Two-Pitch Nebula being well-known. Through the years she mounted a motely assortment of Xaphan battleships--anything she could get her hands on and was spaceworthy enough to fight Davage.  The name of these ships was always the same: "Bloodsimple".  She began wearing ugly makeup during her many encounters with him, developing the persona of a crazed despot. Still, her vast fortune afforded her access to potent technology and she often was able to contact Davage privately via hidden channels and Fleet monikers. In such cases, just the two of them, she would remove her makeup and they would speak kindly to each other, almost tenderly, each silently lamenting what might have been.

Blaming Lady Pardock for the failure of her wedding, Marilith tried to kill her. She broke into Castle Blanchefort and tried to throttle her to death. As the local legend goes, Pardock Dirged her out of a high window. Lt Kilos, in reconsidering the story, came to believe that Lady Poe, an untrained Shadow tech female, blasted Marilith out of the window using Shadow tech. Actually, it was Pardock, using her two fists, who beat Marilith senseless and threw her out the window, she then escaping death with the Waft.

Marilith would come to learn that Lady Hathaline of Durst had “Clouded” her at their pre- wedding ball, and that was the reason Pardock threw down the baton. Determined to get even with Hathaline, Marilith met her in a fierce space battle in the Mirendra star system and killed her, along with her ship and her crew—touching off what would become two large battles known as the First and Second Battle of Mirendra 3.

Later, she learned that Davage had fallen in love with a Black Hat, one Sygillis of Metatron, and, using her vast reach, determined to kill her, even though she would be a terrible, formidable opponent. She became acquainted with a new rising sect in Xaphan Society called the Fanatics of Nalls, a group clamoring to “take down” the Black Hats and replace them with themselves. The group was a brutish, confident lot, claiming to have invented several new gifts and boasted of having discovered the source of the Hulgismen’s immunity to the Sisterhood of Light. Marilith saw them as an interesting, disposable resource and hired them—they taking on her demonic battle persona. She hatched a plan to capture the League’s newest main starship, the Triumph, and using the Fanatics’ Box Gift, managed to steal it and nearly kill Captain Davage in the process. She did not know that Sygillis of Metatron, determined to end their conflict once and for all, managed to steal aboard the Triumph, and, in a cruel, tormented battle, crash-landed the ship on the backward, remote planet of Gelt. Sygillis, in agony from wounds sustained during the battle, went out of her head and impaled the entire group of Fanatics. Princess Marilith, unable to get away, was impaled too, her body then covered up with earth—her broken heart finally stopped forever?? (LoE: SM)

MASERFELD, LORD OF BLANCHEFORT (Str, W) (02769ax-0312ax) Vith: Grandfather of Captain Davage, Maserfeld was a hulking, brutish man. Known for being a raider and brigand, Maserfeld and his comrade Dortha, Lord of Durst, they terrorized the country-side in search of adventure and booty. He was notorious for using his developed Gift of Sight to located and kill skulkers in the villages he plundered. His filthy, blood-encrusted CARG named “Bathilda” was greatly feared. Maserfeld was “tamed” to some extent when he met Chrisania, Lady of Bloodstein and took her for his wife. Together, unlike most Elder houses, they had one son, Sadric. Maserfeld was enraged that his son took more after his mother, being a “soft” society man. He even threatened him with total disinheritance if he did not learn and master the CARG. Sadric did and, eventually created the KING CARG, making Maserfeld a very happy man.

MIDAS, HOUSE OF: Xaphan (Vith): Xaphan House of Vith ancestry who settled on the smoky world of Midas 6. The House of Midas is generally associated with the extinction of the House of Bodice, as the Bodice met their end in the smoky fissures of Midas 6, and their people have suffered the wrath of the League in response, however, it has been proved that the Midas had not yet settled on Midas 6 as the Bodice met their end.

MILOS, LORD OF PROBERT (02997ax--) (--): Calvert: Small, roundish, brown-headed, Milos Lord of Probert was the League’s premier engineer. Nothing to look at, Milos had a keen mind from his early youth, designing an endless series of clever gadgets and devices. He revised and corrected several shortcomings of the old Webber class of starships designed by his father Wadlow. He then designed the mighty Straylight class to starship, his masterpiece. Years later, Milos designed the Triumph, a ship incorporating many new innovations, including SAR-Beams, warp drive engines and a matter/energy transporter. The ship was stolen by Princess Marilith of Xandarr with he and the Lady Branna of Fallz trapped aboard. Using his CEROS, Probert fought off the Fanatics of Nalls until finally being rescued by Sygillis of Metatron.Lord Probert was in love with Lady Poe of Blanchefort, and though she cherished him as a friend and cohort, she never returned his love. Eventually, he became attracted to and wed Lady Branna of Fallz after her husband passed away. They had four children together, the most notable being their youngest, Lord Lon, who got the best of both his parents and would one day become a hero to the tribes of Monama. (LoE: SM, HotOO)

MOGE, PORTATOR OF SHOOK:  Xaphan celebrity and feudal leader of the prefecture of Shook on the world of Conwell, Moge is a usual A-Lister in Xaphan society.  He was, famously, the first husband of notable Black Hat Wilhella Cormand-Grande and their bloody, highly destructive divorce is still a favorite topic.

Moge's origins are a bit shadowy.  He is believed to be from Ming Mooreland, but that is unconfirmed.  He always wears a fiery red Conwell suit topped with a black, hooded cloak covered with a silvery thespian's mask.  He wears two different thespian's masks: one smiling, one frowning.  His demenor and behavior generally mirrors which mask he is wearing.   He is well regarded for his ability to find and recover otherwise lost objects.

Moge has been killed in public over a thousand times, usually in some spectacular and bloody fashion.  Via arcane and poorly understood methods, he never stays dead, always reappearing to stand over his dead body, unflappable and apparently unharmed.  During their famous divorce, Wilhella Cormand-Grande captured Moge and took requests on how she was going to kill him, murdering him no less than three hundred and fifty times.  How he manages this is unknown.  He carries an odd weapon, known unofficially as the "Shookilator".

MONAMA, HOUSE OF: The House of Monama hails from the south of Kana near the banks of the black Lake Monama. A secretive and aloof bunch, their House is the source of much mystery. It has been conjectured that the Monamas are not Elder-Kind, but in fact the original inhabitants of Kana and are thusly an alien species. Their odd appearance and vast Non-Gift powers support this theory.

Monamas are closely associated with Atrajak of Want, the “Hammer” of Remnath, whom they greatly admired and followed as an army for a time.

A typical Monama is thin and rather smallish, averaging between 5'3 and 5'6. Their complexion is a ghastly, chalk-like white while their hair is thick and jet black. There are two distinct tyes of Monamas, the Anuian, or Greater Monamas and the Conox, or Lesser Monamas. The Anuians were much larger and stronger than the Conox, but have largely fallen into extinction. The Conox, though smaller and weaker than the old Anuians, are much heartier and less suseptible to cold temperatures.  Except for their heads, their bodies are hairless. Both male and female Monamas sport long, talon-like fingernails which they normally paint black, and it is their tradition to wear them long and sharp. Their strangest and most disturbing feature is their eyes —which are black, like holes in their heads. It is said that they have an extra set of arms which they keep hidden—this has yet to be confirmed. They are extremely susceptible to cold temperatures and tend to shun colder climates.

Despite being rather small and thin, Monamas are incredibly strong and durable, being much stronger than a standard Elder-Kind, though the Elder Gift of Strength sometimes surpasses theirs. They are also extremely fast with great endurance.

Monamas are also highly prolific breeders. With a gestation period of only three months and a typical clutch of young numbering eight to twelve at a time, a typical Monama family can number in the dozens.

They also appear to have a number to mystical powers the length of which are yet to be fully disclosed. A shy and reclusive bunch, Monamas generally make most of their living by using their ability to clearly see the future, for which they are highly prized. It is said that they, apart from living in the twilight, fog-bound banks of Lake Monama, also have a sizable underground city named Asthketh, and that they worships a strange fish-like creature swimming in the black depths of the lake.

Their House has never been on a high level in League Society. This is partially due to their reclusiveness, reluctance to participate in League Society and their odd appearance. Despite this, they are solid assets and have consistently sided with the League over their enemies, the Xaphans.

House Monama is something of a misnomer, as the name Monama actually refers to many tribes that live near Lake Monama.

The most well known of these tribes: Derathon, Minzer, Nebulon, Astralon, Zerb, Fphenook, Cardinal

OYLN, HOUSE OF: Esther: Great House of Esther founded in 3491ex by Terfal of Oyln Spring. A drifting, down on his luck ex star-farer, Terfal had nothing left to his name but his great whip, the FENNISTER. Arriving in the region of Effington, he learned that the area was being terrorized by a fierce monster inhabiting the swaps. Promising to slay the beast, Terfal took his whip and went into the swamps. Two days later he emerged with its head. Fame and wealth was heaped upon Terfal and the House of Oyln was chartered and patented. A traditional Dukedom, the House of Oyln had controlled up to twenty Great and Minor Houses through the years, the current total is two: House Ruthven, House Welk. The current Lord of Oyn is Fallsworth and his former Black Hat Dutchess, Torrijayne.

PARDOCK, COUNTESS OF VINCENT (ne: LADY OF BLANCHEFORT)(02974ax-): (Str, Sta, D) Vith: Eldest daughter of Sadric, Lord of Blanchefort and Countess Hermilane, Pardock was a rowdy, willful youth whom Sadric often said was “Maserfeld reborn as a blue-haired woman.” Inheriting her mother’s martial spirit, Pardock learned to fist fight from her mother at an early age—a skill she would make use of often, especially in the bars of Blanchefort village, where, in disguise, she would brawl with the locals. Headstrong, she often butted heads with her father over social matters. Sadric wished her to marry into House Champion, as such a pairing would bring great acclaim to both houses, she, however, fell in love with Ferddie, Lord of Vincent, enraging her father as House Vincent bore the stigma of being…stupid. Her fine Blanchefort blood, reinvigorated House Vincent and rid it of the “Stupid” stigma forever.

Pardock is best known for single-handedly stopping “The Wedding” a highly placed wedding intended to put an end to the long-running League-Xaphan war. Her younger brother Davage was to marry Princess Marilith of Xandarr in a highly public wedding that was the talk of both societies. Loving her brother very much and being highly protective of him, Pardock Stared Marilith at a pre-wedding dinner in order to determine what her true intentions might be. Her Stare was terrifying—she saw a maniacal, evil woman who was planning a mass genocide and planned to use her brother to accomplish that end. Fearing for her brother’s life, Pardock threw down the baton at their wedding the next day, thus preventing the wedding from being completed. Sadric never forgave Pardock and rarely spoke to her until his death a year later.

Pardock had seven children, her second youngest, Enoch, became known as a great Black Hat Fighter, he freeing over a hundred. (LoE: SM, TotEH)

PETER, LORD OF BLANCHEFORT (ne: OF RUTHVEN) (03043ax--) (--) Esther: Peter of Ruthven was the second of three brothers. His parents, Lord Stephen and Lady Chersa, were fully absorbed by the House of Oyln, and, as such, Peter grew up under the wing of the Duke of Oyln. Peter was a quiet, gentle boy who, from an early age, showed a great aptitude for mechanics and complicated systems. As a man he, along with his two brothers, joined the Duke of Oyln as he became a galactic pirate—the Duke relying heavily on Peter’s mechanical skill. On a mission, the Goshawk gang rescued Lady Poe of Blanchefort from the Black Hat’s Shade Church. Like two pieces of a puzzle, Peter and Poe immediately found an affinity for each other which quickly grew into romance. Soon, with great fanfare, they were married. Peter created the original Tuleefly, which was then copied by his wife and become the template for the prolific Paraflies which would eventually spread out all over the League. (LoE: HotOO, TotEH)

PHILLIP, LORD OF BLANCHEFORT (03214ax--) (Si) Vith: Phillip was the second son of Lord Peter and Lady Poe of Blanchefort and was the twin brother of Sarah of Blanchefort. A thoughtful, cerebral boy, Phillip was handsome and had inherited his father’s considerable mechanical skills. He was also a natural pilot, and from a very young age flew the Goshawk with his proud father sitting in the side chair. Phillip, though fairly quiet and thoughtful, had a love of adventure and romance and a weakness for wild, strong women. He and his sister Sarah were best friends with their cousin, Lord Kabyl, and together they enjoyed many adventures. Phillip got a little more than he bargained for in the city of Waam, when a local magistrate, Thomasina the 19th of Waam, fell in love with him. She relentlessly pursued him across the city, determined for him to stay in Waam. Though outwardly outraged, Phillip found a deep attraction to the beautiful Thomasina and enjoyed her pursuit. Eventually, after following him to Kana and engaging in a violent fight with her, he accepted her advances and, eventually after a protracted and rather contentious courtship, they would marry. PITHNAR, GRAND ABBESS OF: One of the 25 Grand Abbess’ of the Sisterhood of Light, the Grand Abbess of Pithnar is one of the few of her ilk who is commonly seen in League Society. A beautiful and outspoken individual (she can speak plainly to the general populace) she is considered something of a celebrity in League Society and is often seen aboard Fleet vessels— especially the SEEKER.

It was a well known “secret” that the Grand Abbess once had had a long standing love affair with a Great House Lord. House Grenville lore makes claim to this story, stating that the Grand Abbess’ “lover” was Lord Herdie of Grenville, but it is believed that her lover was actually someone else, possibly Sadric, Lord of Blanchefort. Such a relationship is strictly forbidden and, heartbroken, the Grand Abbess had to let her lover go and watch him eventually marry another.

There is a strange, beautiful plant that grows in and around the Pithnar ruins and nowhere else. It is said this plant grew up in places where the Grand Abbess’ tears fell. (LoE: SM)

POE, LADY OF BLANCHEFORT (02987ax--) (St) Vith: The second daughter of Sadric, Lord of Blanchefort and Countess Hermilane, Poe was born with a strange black mark around her right eye. Immediately after her birth, a fierce group of howling, filthy people tried to abduct Poe, they “appearing” out of thin air. Sadric, defending his infant daughter, fought and killed them with his KING CARG. Appearing to be in great pain, Sadric took Poe to the Sisterhood of Light, hoping they could do something for her. Seeing the mark on her face, they informed him that she was a Shadow tech female and that the Xaphan Black Hat Sisterhood would try to abduct her again—other than that there wasn’t much they could do for her—they knowing very little about Shadow tech themselves. Through observation, Sadric learned that, every seven days, smoke would come out of Poe’s mouth, and after that she would be all right for a while. Eventually, Sygillis of Metatron determined that Lady Poe was actually suffering from Shadow tech poisoning and was a Shadow tech female. Sygillis taught Poe how to manipulate her power and she became quite adept, her little animal creations were works of sheer genius, the most powerful of which was Carahil, a seal who became a god. Poe would later meet and fall in love with Peter, Lord of Ruthven and would marry him. She would later give birth to five children: Milos, Sarah, Phillip, Millie and John.

It has been speculated that Lady Poe of Blanchefort is the identity of the mysterious Shadow tech Goddess, a Wvulgrom who was so powerful, she killed every living thing in her alternate universe.

Lady Poe’s Familiars. Lady Poe was well-known for her Silver tech familiars. Most Shadow tech females have one or two familiars that they keep ready for use, however, Lady Poe had eight that she could create at a moment’s notice. Most were small and created in the shape of animals. All were “stamped” with Lady Poe’s Blanchefort Coat of Arms.

PRENTISS, HOUSE OF: Zenon: Great House of the northern Zenonlands. Current ruling family: Lord Dorn and Countess Merci (formerly of Cone).

PROBERT, HOUSE OF: Calvert: Great House of Ardan though their roots come from Calvert, House Probert began in low-standing, having a preponderance of Brown blood in its roots. Always known for having great, practical minds, a by-product of their Brown origins, House Probert made a name for itself by engineering a number of modern marvels. Wadlow of Probert designed the mighty Webber class of Teacher-based star vessels, and his son Milos became the Fleet’s chief engineer, designing the Straylight and Triumph class of Main Star vessels. The ancestral weapon of House Probert is the CEROS, a formidable, well-designed throwing weapon.

ROSTOV, HOUSE OF: Calvert: Decadent House of Calvert descent, the Rostovs were forced from their priginal home near the Calvert city of Bezzel with the Sisterhood of Light. They settled by the western sea in the wilds of Remnath and there built the black city of Rostov, a place known for excessive vice and gambling. Eventually, the city was reborn under the leadership of Lord Phender of Rostov and became a respectable city, never to be visited by the Sisters in anger again.

RUTHVEN, HOUSE OF: Calvert: An old Calvert House Minor, the Ruthvens long ago lost a battle with House Oyln and became subjugated to them. The arrangement proved to be mutually beneficial and, by modern times, House Ruthven became virtually interchangeable with House Oyln, living under their roof and wearing their fashions. The only thing left of their identity is their LosCapricos weapon, the SAPP.

SAARI, CREWMAN, LADY OF FALLZ (03151ax--): (W) Zenon: Tenth daughter of Lady Branna, Imperitor of the Science Ministry, the small, blue-haired Saari had a place set aside for her in the Ministry from birth. Instead, Saari dreamed of flying a starship and got her mother to get her an appointment as a junior helmsman aboard the Seeker. Unable to follow an order for an impossibly difficult helm movement over Metatron, the Seeker was badly damaged and Captain Davage lost. Guilt ridden and suicidal, Lt Kilos was able to restore her confidence and she served well in the recovery of Captain Davage upon their return to Metatron. She eventually became a Master Helmsman. (LoE: SM, HotOO)

SADRIC, LORD OF BLANCHEFORT (02895ax-03105ax): (Si, ST, W) Vith: Lord of Blanchefort, father of Captain Davage. A handsome, dainty man Gifted with the rare Sight, Sadric was a man of many contradictions. Thin and beautiful, he was a true Man About Town, reveling in gossips and Society intrigues, he had many friends and was very popular. Yet, at the same time, he was the son of Maserfeld, a man known to be a brutal raider and brigand. Additionally, Sadric courted and married Hermilane, Lady of Hannover, a much older woman known for her martial skills and love of war. Sadric was also very friendly with the Sisterhood of Light, they welcoming him into their inner-circles and sharing secrets with him that they had with no other. It was said, prior to his marriage with Lady Hermilane, that he had had a long-running affair with the Grand Abbess of Pithnar—she weeping with sadness that she could not openly love and marry him.

Sadric also had enemies: the House of Grenville. Whereas his father Maserfeld would string Grenvilles up, sack their holdings and kill them, Sadric preferred the more civilized methods of fighting---social slaps and slights, poisoned gossip, pranks and various other intrigues—his arch enemy Marist, Lord of Grenville his ever-willing opponent in these doings. Sadric was known in some circles for infiltrating posh Grenville parties dressed as a “Dark, mysterious woman,” and then enraging Marist by commenting in detail on the event and disparaging those aspects he found laughable.

Though an apparently frail man, Sadric was a master of the CARG, the ancestral weapon of House Blanchefort and forged a very fine CARG often called the KING CARG or the MASTERPIECE CARG. He forged it so that his father Maserfeld would not disinherit him. Sadric had three children, Pardock, Poe and Davage, Davage being the heir of Blanchefort. When his second daughter, Poe, was born she was attacked by five strange, savage people who emerged from thin air and tried to take her. Sadric, fearful for his newly born daughter, fought the intruders off, using his Sight, killing them all with his CARG. It was then that he saw his daughter had an odd black mark on her face and seemed to be in great pain. Sadric took her to the Sisterhood where they told him of Shadow tech and the Black Hat order and they warned that the Black Hats would come again. Fearing for his daughter’s safety, Sadric determined to end the Elder-Xaphan war with a grand unifying wedding. It took years of negotiation and planning to bring about and eventually, his own son Davage was selected the honor to marry the Xaphan. When his daughter Pardock refused to pass the baton, the dream of a unifying marriage was ended and Sadric, bewitched by Marilith, sulked the rest of his life away in his tower.

SAMMIDORAN, COUNTESS OF BLANCHEFORT (ne: OF MONAMA (Astralon)) (03203ax--) (M): Lady Sammidoran was the youngest daughter of Lord Gabriel and Lady Velocan of the Astralon tribe, House of Monama. She was born in a jar, and was hailed as an Anuian and considered to be good luck.  She grew up in the bleached white halls of Castle Astralon, near the north bank of Lake Monama along with her seventy-one brothers and sisters. From an early age she exhibited mastery of many of the mystical powers the Monamas were suspected of having, especially her ability teleport anywhere on Kana in the blink of an eye and to see the future. A personable and outgoing child, Sammidoran had many visions of the future, the most vivid being that she would one day become the next Countess of Blanchefort, married to a boy not yet born. “Sam” found herself confined by the dreary, cloud-bound Monama lands and was, even as a small girl, intrigued with the idea of becoming a Countess to an Elder—something that was unheard of. After giving it much thought, she fell in love with this Elder lord—a person not yet born, and became utterly devoted to him. She even knew his name: Kabyl, Lord of Blanchefort and she would lay awake at night saying his name, just to hear the sound of it.

When Countess Sygillis of Blanchefort was ready to give birth to her first son, Sammidoran went with her parents to witness the birth—as her family was friends with House Blanchefort, a Vith house far to the north where it was cold all the time. When her grandmother lifted her up so that she could peer into the newborn’s crib, she instantly told her grandmother in Monama that she would one day marry this boy. As the boy aged, Lady Sammidoran spent a great deal of her time watching him, sometimes she would “blink” to his room and hide his things, just to tease and confound him. Sometimes, she would sing to him at night. Plucking up the courage, she shared her vision with Lord Davage and Countess Sygillis and they gave her permission to seek him out and strike up a friendship if she could. She did, speaking to him as a disembodied voice in the Chapel of Fercandia. To her delight, the boy, Lord Kabyl, proved to be amiable to becoming her friend and would often come to the chapel and read her the posts—the two good- naturedly arguing over the articles. Although Lord Kabyl wanted to meet her in person, she would not allow it, as she was afraid that, when he saw that she was a Monama, he would be frightened of her strange appearance. Sam was very beautiful, yet she wasn’t the golden-hair Zenon-Girl that Kay had thought her to be. Eventually, after five years, she relented and appeared to him in the Telmus Grove, and, as she feared, he was revolted and drew his CARG. Distraught and ready to commit suicide over her lost love, Sammidoran appeared to him one last time to give him his coat back and say goodbye. Lord Kabyl, however, had learned the error of his ways and told her that he missed her. He even offered to give her his CARG as a gift, which she accepted, and they became nearly inseparable. Before a year was out, they became lovers. Sam, however, was hiding the fact that she, along with all of her Monama kinsman, were slaves to a cruel race of beings who once inhabited Kana and wished to reclaim it. These beings would watch them through covert Gamma band slits and make them do things they didn’t wish to do. The punishment for non-compliance—to be turned into a Berserkacide. Lady Sammidoran was tormented with a vision that, one day, she would be turned into a Berserkacide and ordered to kill Lord Kabyl. Monamas generally accepted their fate, for what could they do? But Sam saw a way out. Lord Kabyl showed her a book of arcane machines— in particular, a machine that could bridge to gap between two time temporalities. Sam knew that Lord Kabyl had the Dark Sight, and could interact with objects and people in the past, but could not maintain the connection. The machine, however, could. Discovering from Lord Lon of Probert, that one example of this legendary machine existed, Sam broke into the Sister’s stronghold at Hiei and stole a book detailing its location and power source. She discovered the machine was in three pieces, the third being held in Xaphan space. She then sold all of her jewelry and had the power source for the machine constructed—but she had to be careful, for her tormentors were always watching, and should they become wise to what she was doing, they would trigger her into a Berserkacide. SARAH, LADY OF MYSTERY (ne: OF BLANCHEFORT) (03214ax--) (Str, Si) Vith: Lady Sarah of Blanchefort was the first daughter of Lady Poe and Lord Peter of Blanchefort. She was the twin sister of Lord Phillip of Blanchefort. She was always notable for being the spitting image of Countess Hermilane of Blanchefort, her grandmother, right down to the blue hair and pugnacious demeanor. Although always ready and willing to start or participate in a fight, Sarah was a lot more like her kind and gentle parents then she liked to let on. She was a devoted sister and friend, her best friends being her twin brother Phillip and her cousin, Lord Kabyl, and together and three of them went on many adventures together. Sarah, though could be temperamental and quick to judge, and her nasty attitude towards Lady Sammidoran of Monama, who would one day marry Lord Kabyl, nearly lost her his friendship. Eventually, after a secret brawl between them, Sarah grew to love “Sam” as well. She always liked to say that any man who wanted to court her would have to fight her for it, and she was true to her word. Eventually, Lord Clement of Mystery would accept the challenge and, after a brawl, earned her hand. (LoE: TotEH)

SIXTUS, LORD OF GRENVILLE (03100ax--) (Str, C, W): Remnath: Eldest of the current Grenville line and prominent Lord of standing, Sixtus of Grenville is a very powerful Lord and advisor to the Fleet Admiralty, though his is a civilian. Often and political and social rival to Davage, Lord of Blanchefort.

SHURLAMP, HANNA-BEN (ne: OF BLOODSTEIN  003257ax--) (D, W, C): Vith:  Professor Emeritus from the University of Dee, the beautful Grand Dame Hanna-Ben Shurlamp is the pride of her school.  She is well-regarded  for her learned contributions, not only in the arts, as was her specialty, but the the various sciences a well.  The fifteenth daughter of the House of Bloodstein, she is the great, great, great grandaughter of Queen Ghome, a Xaphan tyrant.  A gifted and brilliant researcher, she married into a minor House of Calvert, Shurlamp, and secured a teaching position at the University of Dee in 003288ax.  She quickly advanced in tenure and became the university's most notable and outspoken professor.  Her skills involving research into the various arts are acknowledged without question in the learned circles of the League--it's her methods that have been long suspected as shady and called into question.  A scandal broke out in 003304ax when a rival, planning on publishing a wondrous new discovery pertaining to the pre-history of Kana was found dead at the bottom of the Withelwell River.  The local magistrates believed, after an extensive investigation, that the demure Professor Shurlamp had ordered his death.  She was later cleared of the charges.  Later that year, Shurlamp published a well-regarded paper pertaining to the Pre-History of Kana, one in a very similar vein to that of the murdered professor.

Rumors persisted that the good professor was a vile hoarder and outright thief of knowledge and a viscious opponent, as several more of her learned rivals turned up dead as well.  It was even said she actively employed mercenaries and Xaphans at various times to fetch her what she needed and to take care of others getting ahead of her.  None of those charges or rumors have yet to be proved.

SUBRA, OF THE MARK (2994ex-0004ex): The eldest daughter of the legendary Vith Lord Homma and his gigantic queen Emmira, Subra was a beautiful, blue-haired Vith maiden. From a young age, Subra was known to have had an odd black mark around her right eye, giving her the sobriquet Subra of the Mark. She is written to have had the ability to perform a number of amazing things, including the ability to summon fog, which often aided her father Homma in his battles with the Haitathe. It is generally accepted that Subra is the first recorded instance of a Vith female commanding the emplosser, later known as Shadow tech. Subra joined her father in his ongoing war with the Haitathe and eventually began carrying her mother’s huge sword “Battleborne.” Like most of her siblings, Subra was devoured by her father Homma in 2015ex. After his death, she emerged from his belly and went on to found several Vith Houses, including Durst, Clovis, Burgos and Holly.

SUZARAINE, LADY OF GRENVILLE (ne: OF GULLE) (03117ax--): (BH) Xaphan: Black Hat Hammer of a low order, Suzaraine of Gulle was considered a failure and an incompetent, the Black Hat leadership wondering how she survived the trials of the Church. Her small temple in the city of Gulle was often said to “leak.”

Sent with a group of other “marginal” Black Hats to Metatron to assist in the recovery of Sygillis of Metatron, she was forced to bear the Dark Man with her. Thus possessed, she engaged Captain Davage in a fierce battle where she was finally defeated. Her soul nearly consumed by the Dark Man, her broken body was saved by Commander Mapes, Lord of Grenville. Under his care, she recovered from her ordeal, fell in love and married him within a stellar year. A rather shy and reclusive person, she was, nevertheless, extremely intelligent and made many friends via correspondence. (LoE: SM, TotEH)

SYGILLIS, COUNTESS OF BLANCHEFORT (ne: OF METATRON) (02990ax--): (BH) Xaphan: Black Hat Hammer and one of their top killers, Sygillis of Metatron was infamous for slaughtering a whole squadron of League Marines single-handed. Tiny, barely five feet tall, red- haired and green-eyed, she sat in her Temple in Metatron, a diminutive yet utterly evil and terrifying figure sitting atop her throne. She was often brought prisoners condemned to death, and there, like a bug on a spider’s web, they would stumble through the pitch darkness of her temple, eventually being killed by her. A particularly ruthless Black Hat, she was one of the Black Abbess’ favorites.

Select Black Hats have the occasional ability to see the future—Sygillis being one of them. She would later recall, sitting on her throne, having a vision of a tall man with glowing eyes searching for her in the dark. Her soul, being stunted and evil, didn’t understand what she was seeing, but, in later reflection, she understood she was seeing Captain Davage, her future savior, looking for her in the night.

She was captured by the League in 03189ax. There, instead of being executed by the Sisterhood, she was “saved” by the ship’s captain, Captain Davage. She, for reasons unknown, she did not attempt to kill Davage, and eventually was “turned” by him, and she fell in love. Annoyed by the loss of face for losing such a wicked Black Hat to the League, the Black Abbess determined to re-indoctrinate her into the Black Hats, destroy the Seeker and kill Captain Davage. She set a trap for her at her old temple which had turned silver as Sygillis fell in love. Knowing that the Black Hat time technology within the temple was in flux, if Sygillis entered or got near it, she would regress in time and become evil again, she harassed the Hulgismen within with “marginal” Black Hats and possessed one with the Dark Man, an intensely evil Shadow tech totem to kill Captain Davage. The Hulgismen, terrified, bewildered, cried out for help and the Black Abbess amplified their cries so that Sygillis would hear them and come. The plan fell apart when the temple, converted into a starship, escaped Metatron, the Dark Man was destroyed and more Black Hats were lost to the League.

Harassed by a jealous Princess Marilith of Xandarr, she boarded her stolen ship, the Triumph, and engaged her and the Fanatics of Nalls in a ferocious battle, where the Triumph crash landed on the remote planet of Gelt. There, badly wounded and out of her mind, she impaled the lot of them on Shadow tech stakes and roamed the field as the “Wailing Demon.” She was eventually saved and taken back to the League by Captain Davage who married her. Sygillis was the grandmother of Captain Hathaline, Lady of Durst who was the childhood neighbor of Captain Davage, and it was that shared psychic knowledge of him that helped cultivate her powerful feelings. She would eventually bear Davage twenty children. Breaking the usual tradition of Countesses staying at home in the ancestral castle, Sygillis went everywhere Captain Davage did, sharing in his adventures. (LoE: SM, HotOO, TotEH, SotSE)

TERFAL THE QUICK (2990ex-0001ex): Second son of Lord Homma of Telmus Falls and Queen Emmira, Terfal joined his parents in their continual war against the tribes of Haitathe in the northern Vith areas of Kana. Noted for his rapid ability to use the Waft, he became known as “The Quick.” A mighty warrior, Terfal, along with his elder brother Lennibus, stood against his father after he went mad and devoured his mother and siblings. Haunted by the memory of his mad father, Terfal left Vithland and migrated to the east in Esther, where he founded a number of Esther Houses.

TERRANCE, THE MAD LORD OF WALTHER: (03078ax-03215ax): Esther: A flamboyant, free spirit from the Green Sabre region of Esther, Terrance was a rooftop prowling vigilant adorned in a mask who drew the continual ire of the Sisterhood of Light. Though an odd sight, The “Mad Lord of Walther” was nevertheless beloved in the area for the undeniably heroic feats of daring and strength he exhibited. His constant nemesis was the Stellar pirate, Lord Sedgwick of Kold who wished to usurp control of the Esther region for himself. Time and time again, Kold would pop up with one grand plot after another, and always there was the Mad Lord to stop him. Eventually, Walther and Kold would engage in a horrific battle over the city of Rustam—a very different sort of battle from the happy-go-lucky encounters they enjoyed in the past. Victorious, Walther appeared to go utterly mad, roaming the region claiming he was in the employ of the Sisterhood of Light, and so was Sedgwick of Kold. Soon the Sisters arrived, and, in a rare public display to power, killed Walther as a dangerous public threat. His remains were never found. (LoE: SotSE)

THOMASINA, LADY OF WOOLOVER, 19th (alt: OF WAAM/BLANCHEFORT) (03102ax--) (STR) Xaphan (Barrow): Thomasina the 19th of Woolover was born in her green ancestral manor in the Auld municipality in the Xaphan city of Waam. She was a descendant of the fragment of the House of Woolover who followed the rebellious Vith Houses to the stars after the Great Betrayal, her piece following the House of Clovis, and eventually settling in Waam. Her name at birth was Rose, but was awarded the Grand Title Thomasina after she bested her six sisters in a series of competitions, thus earning the right. She was the 19th Thomasina in Waam (the name having reset back to 1 after settling in Waam). A tall, strong girl she was a classic Woolover matriarch: iron-willed, strong, stubborn and determined that her people practice temperance and moderation. Having a father from Bondar, Thomasina was said to possess the ability to fly, as is often the case with people from Bondar.  She was also the magistrate of the municipality of Auld and enforced the law with a dogged zeal. Unlike many of her green-gowned predecessors, she allowed drinking in Auld, but in moderation. She and her Singing Ten, actively enforced prohibition, forcing pubs, taverns and bars to close early every night after thirty bells. Although a regal and stern woman, she was generous and freely shared her wealth with any who truly needed help. While closing a pub in Saga one evening, she came upon a table of four young people who were engaged in some sort of standoff with Spectres of the Drune clan. As she soon discovered, the pub was overrun with Cloaked Spectres, whom she and her Singing Ten helped defeat. It was then that she first saw Lord Phillip of Blanchefort, whom she immediately fell in love with. Not used to treating men with any care or consideration, Thomasina fully expected Phillip to concede to her wishes without struggle, including kidnapping him and bringing him bodily to church. Phillip violently resisted her advances and, undeterred, Thomasina pursued Phillip through the city, hunting him down like a fugitive. When Phillip escaped, Thomasina was heartbroken. She followed him back to Kana and, after several violent encounters, managed to win his heart. Rarely calling her Thomasina, Phillip referred to her by her birth name: Rose. (LoE: TotEH)

TORRIJAYNE, DUCHESS OF OYLN (ne: OF WAAM) (03061ax-)(BH) Xaphan: Torrijayne of Waam was a vile Black Hat of Painter class centered in the city of Waam. She was particularly known for her sadistic cruelty and delight in torturing children. She had a number of enemies within the Black Hat ranks and was actively hostile to Sygillis of Metatron, the two often at arms against each other. While creating a massive Shadow tech beast on Xandarr, Torrijayne was captured by the Duke of Oyln and taken in chains back to his mansion where he attempted to break the darkness around her. Eventually, with the help of Carahil the Silver tech totem, Torrijayne was freed of her darkness and she quickly fell in love with the Duke. She developed a very friendly personality and earned many friends—except for Sygillis of Metatron, the Countess of Blanchefort, for whom her previous hatred never abated. Sharing many adventures with her Duke, she eventually gave him ten children. Her battles with the Countess of Blanchefort were ongoing, occasionally shocking and often humorous—from savage fistfights in hidden locations to campaigns of humiliation, the Duchess and the Countess inventive methods of “one-upping” the other were constant sources of A-list gossip. (LoE: HotOO, TotEH)

TWEETER: Silver tech familiar and constant companion of Kilos of Tusck. When Lt. Kilos of Tusck resigned her commission and decided to return home to Tusck, Captain Davage convinced her to take up residence in his castle until she could book passage home. Kilos accepted and moved into Pendar Tower for a short time. As per typical, Kilos found the vast and maze-like interior of the castle impossible to navigate without getting lost. Lady Poe of Blanchefort, knowing Ki’s difficulty, created a Tweeter for her—a Silver tech familiar that Lady Poe often used navigate the unfamiliar cities and castles that she was now visiting as a rising star in League society (Poe’s sense of direction was just as bad as Ki’s).

Tweeter was a tiny Silver tech bird in the general form of a canary. He had a rather mechanical look to him, with articulated wings and feet, and his mid-section was slightly rounded, as if he’d swallowed a golf ball. As a usual touch for Lady Poe creations, Tweeter had a bright, happy face. Lady Poe’s Coat of Arms was stamped under his right wing.

Although Ki didn’t think much of Tweeter at first, she quickly grew to appreciate and admire his ability to get her anywhere she wanted to go. When Ki became trapped in the dreaded Hazards of the Old Ones, it was Tweeter who guarded her sanity, gave her hope and guided her out—after that, Ki became attached to him as a “lucky charm".  Soon, Tweeter began showing signs of weakening, and Ki feared for him. When Ki met up with Lady Poe in Shade Church, she begged her to help Tweeter. Lady Poe explained that Tweeter was timed, and that he was soon to fade away—Lady Poe offered to make her another, but Ki wouldn’t hear it—she pleaded with Lady Poe to do something for him. Lady Poe attached him to her life force, giving him life as long as Ki lived. Ever after Tweeter was never far from Ki, she becoming known as Kilos of the Silver Bird. In time she discovered how much Tweeter could do, even Lady Poe, his creator, didn't realize what Tweeter was capable of. On command, he could not only guide one without error to a specific destination, he could also locate people, find lost or specific objects, and follow abstract commands, such as “find a safe route,” and “get me to a place where it’s warm.”  Kilos used him in a number of creative ways, including locating her the "best pancakes in town", and the "inn with the least amount of bed-bugs".

TYROL, HOUSE OF: Esther: Ancient House that, during the time of the Elders, did not participate in the star-faring activities most of the other tribes did. They remained in their small on the eastern shores of Esther, concerning themselves with things considered forbidden. A common trait of the House of Tyrol is a head of shiny silver hair, known in the region as Pweterlock.

VENDRA, LADY OF CONE (03092ax) (Sta, W) Remnath: Lady Vendra of Cone was a young socialite from Remnath. Falling in love with the handsome Stenstrom, Lord of Belmont at a Nether Day ball, she was enraged to discover that Lord Belmont had been stolen right out from under her by Lady Jubilee of Tyrol, a social rival of her older sister. Heartbroken and humiliated, Vendra stormed out of the ball and developed a powerful and long-lasting hatred of Lady Jubilee that never abated. After nearly fighting her to the death at a party, Vendra discovered that Lady Jubilee (an alleged sorceress) was too powerful to confront head on, instead, Lady Vendra turned her attention to her loved ones. She attempted to have Lord Belmont killed in space with explosives. She then declared Wirguild against Lady Jubilee and bided her time, waiting for the proper moment to strike. When Jubilee had a son, Vendra decided to have him killed. When she attempted to abduct Lady Jubilee’s son, the Sisters interceded and imprisoned Lady Vendra in Twilight 4 for ten years, until the League Ex- Commons requested her release. During that time, Lady Vendra developed a hatred for the Sisters that rivaled her hatred for Lady Jubilee. Having discovered that both the Mad Lord of Walther and his “enemy” Lord Sedgwick of Kold were actually working for the Sisters, Vendra decided to destroy the both of them. Using powerful potions, she caused both men to fall hopelessly in love with her and then set them against the other. The two met in battle, this time for real in the city of Rustam, and their struggle flattened most of the city. Killing Kold, Walther soon lost his mind thank to Lady Vendra, and he wandered about in madness. Eventually, hr Sisters had to kill him, for he was spewing their various secrets out to the public.

VROC, PRINCESS OF XANDARR (03124ax--) (STR, W) Xaphan (Vith): Princess Vroc of Xandarr had a terrible childhood. She was born as the Eleventh Daughter of House Xandarr and was kept in the dungeon. Her father, King Hezru, used her status as the Eleventh Daughter to appease the people when they came to him for help. Vroc was small and not overly attractive, and eventually, Hezru sold her into prostitution. Failing at that, Hezru then sold her to a meat market in the Kestral world of Burgon where she was to be sold for her flesh. The Black Hats, wanting revenge on Xandarr, saved her from the market and took her back to the Shade Church where they plied her with drugs and other strange chemicals. During her time there, Vroc’s mind snapped and she fell into utter madness. The Black Hats, to keep her lucid, had to give her frequent doses of a strange drug and kept her thoughts clear for a time. Vroc then was loosed upon her family where she murdered them all, except for Prince Balor, who wasn’t home. Though insane, she felt guilty for killing them and arranged their bodies at the Grand Dining table—a place she herself was never permitted to sit. There, her insane mind heard their voices without end. The Black Hats wanted Captain Davage lured to Xandarr and they wanted his wife and his sister, Lady Poe of Blanchefort brought to them and Vroc, in a Shadow tech ship, fought Davage in space, where she managed to abduct Countess Sygillis. Successfully luring Davage to Xandarr, the Black Hats sprung their master plan to kill all life on the planet—Davage included. Vroc, her insanity blossoming to full-fledged dementia, began seeing the Captain as her dead father and tried to bear him away, though she insisted his crew and his ship be destroyed. Eventually, the attack was beaten back and Vroc disappeared. Several months later, she infiltrated Castle Blanchefort and planned to blow it up. After a fierce sword battle, Captain Davage defeated her and, broken, badly wounded, Vroc begged him to kill her.

Davage, however, took pity on her and treated her wounds. Eventually King Balor took her back to Xandarr. There, under his care, Vroc indeed improved and recovered a fair portion of her sanity, though she always maintained a rather “dreamy” demeanor.

Her skill as a swordsman quickly became legendary and, as Xandarr joined the League, Great House lords clamored to receive instruction from her, which cost them a small fortune. (LoE: HotOO, TotEH)

WANT, HOUSE OF: Remnath: Old Remnath House located north of the city of St Paris, the House of Want possessed technology un-dreamed of, even surpassing that of the Elders. They were thought to have discovered the method of creating Elder Brightstones (something the Sisters and the Science Ministry had never been able to achieve, even after hundreds of years of research).  Harassed by the Sisterhood of Light for their knowledge and inventions, the House eventually left the League, relocating to parts unknown in 000011ax.  Certain scholarly teachings place the House of Want at Emmira, an ancient Elder-Kind homeworld.

WOOLOVER, HOUSE OF: Barrow: Prominent House of Barrow located in the city of Saga. The Woolovers, always a stern matriarchal House, saw the city of Saga falling into decadence after the passing of the Elders. One of the last Elders, Auld, gave Thomasina I of Woolover the plans for a powerful club called the MT CALM and bade her protect the people from sin. And Thomasina did, becoming known as a fierce prohibitionist. Her roving groups of singing, club-wield ladies, known as the “Singing Ten”, became feared for their determination and soon, Saga was cleaned up. Ever after the name of Thomasina became known for temperance and moderation—bought at the end of a club. During the Great Betrayal, The House of Woolover, lead by Thomasina 5th took a small fragment of the House to the Stars with the rebellious Great Houses of. Their goal was to continue spreading word and news of the Elders—self-sacrifice is an Elder tenet. There, they settled on several Xaphan worlds, including Gothan, Charn, Ferd and Wunderland. Over the years, they lost contact with the main House in Saga and, though they continued to preach Elder religion and remained matriarchal in nature, they became rather Xaphan-like, fierce and savage. Thomasina 19th of Waam fell deeply in love with Lord Phillip of Blanchefort and relentlessly pursued him trough Waam and, eventually, back to the League, refusing to take no for an answer. Though resistant at first and bitterly opposed to Thomasina kidnapping him to church as she was wont to do, Phillip relented and they eventually married.

XANDARR, HOUSE OF: Xaphan (Vith): Powerful Blue Great House of Vith ancestry of the Line of Lacerta that lead the Xaphan defection in 0000ax. Powerful, wealthy and influential, House Xandarr settled on a small, warm world near the border of League/Xaphan space that eventually bore their name. Always in the forefront of Xaphan Society, House Xandarr managed to both lead the ongoing war with the Elders, and later the League, and maintain minimal ties and business with them. When Princess Marilith of Xandarr fell badly out of favor with the powerful Black Hat Sisterhood after the disastrous TRIUMPH AFFAIR, much of their holdings and assets were seized. Unprincipled and capricious, House Xandarr indulged its whims and ignored the people, who often lived in squalor. Virtually the entire House was murdered by Princess Vroc of Xandarr— the hated Eleventh Daughter. The only one to escape was Prince Balor who fled to the tunnels beneath Xandarr Keep. With the help of Captain Davage, the Black Hats were defeated and Balor, along with his new consort Zoladerra of Vain, rebuilt Xandarr and became an ally of the League. Balor brought his insane sister, Princess Vroc home and, with care, recovered a large measure of her sanity.

The Last unbroken line of Xandarr before the Night of Murders was: Nalfeshnee (killed), Glabrazu (M)(killed), Marilith, Balor (M), Manes (M), Juiblex, Nalfeshnee II, Glabrazu II (M), Igura, Zolaara, Vrok

XANDARR 44:  Collection of Black Hats who were freed from their Shadow tech trance during the Purge of Xandarr. While engaged in a pitched battle with Captain Davage and his Countess, Sygillis of Blanchefort in the great hall of Xandarr Keep, the Black Hats were confronted by a collection of mystical objects created by the Elemental Spirit Carahil.  The objects absorbed the energy of their illegal gifts and came to life, carrying the Black Hats away from the hall where they were assumed to be killed. However, the objects did not kill the Black Hats. Instead, they freed them of their Shadow tech curse and they wandered the ruins of Xandarr Keep in a befuddled daze. They numbered forty-four.  Eventually, they were seen by Captain Davage, who quickly recognized that they were free and endeavoured to protect them during the battle.  King Balor I of Xandarr then led a small group to the surface and rescued them only minutes before a towering Shadow tech beast was to discover them.  In the aftermath of the Purge, they were protected and nurtured by King Balor and they grew in power, becoming an elite protective team for both Xandarr and the League.  The most notable of the 44 was Zoladerra of Vain who married King Balor and became the Queen of Xandarr.

XENON THE BARE (02646ex, 0010ex): Youngest son of Lord Homma of Telmus Falls and Queen Emmira, Xenon shunned the on-going war his parents waged against the Haitathe. Like many of his siblings, he was devoured by his father in a fit of madness, re-emerging years later where he migrated to the south and helped found several Houses in the Zenon region.
